Have you all tried any different Board sizes for battles?
I know its standard to use 4x4 for 1k and less and I've seen local escalation leagues start 500pt games on 2x4 boards.
Has anyone run games on 5x5 or 6x6 boards? you'd gain more square footage on the 5x5 compared to a 6x4, if only barely, but the 6x6 would far outclass an 8x4 in area and allow for more maneuvering. I understand that comfort may become a problem in reaching for less accessible models near the middle of the board but I think the tactical gains may outweigh the discomfort if you have enough terrain to make the movement phase tactically engaging.
If you have done this, how was your experience? Did you change Deployment zones at all? Did it have a significant impact on the game? Did it show over-extension more boldly than a rectangular board?

Would love but 6'x deep is simply not fittable to my room unless I do some serious refurnishing(read carry bed elsewhere). 8' wide MIGHT fit provided small table is carried elsewhere.
Mind you if this means deployment zones are further away deep strikers and indirect fire is going to go up in value a lot. Don't play this if IG's are already giving you headache

My standard table is 8x4 feet, simply because I didn't feel like cutting a standard piece of plywood. I do however have a ping pong table that is 8.5x5 feet that I wouldn't mind using for a megabattle.

When I had a house and the room to do so, my standard set up was 8x4 with the two ends left free for 1 foot. That gave each player some place to set dead models, layout their books or papers and maybe a drink. I just find the rectangular board setup feels like being railroaded for some reason.

Last game we played was on 6x5. We just adjusted the scenario using the centre of the table as a reference point. So the deployment zones got deeper, but the starting distance to an enemy stayed the same.
We ended up playing an open play scenario for multiplayer where everyone gangs up on one person.

I've played on 6x6 afew times.
I found it somewhat unwieldy. Reaching model's in the centre of the table wasn't always easy.

Well, my table was 6' x 4'... until the weekend, when I broke the hinges putting it up...
so now it's 4' x 4'. But then, we are routinely playing 1000pt games (so we can get two games in an afternoon/evening).

My experience is similar to MinscS2. If you have a board that is wider than 4' you will have a horrible time moving units in the middle. Experienced that first hand in an Apoc game I had on a 6x6 many years ago.

4 feet wide is easy to reach thr middle.
When you get wider and add terrain, other models, there's a limit to what you can use as effectively.
A 6 foot wide board may look great but you may have trouble reaching for middle depending how busy or your arms lengh.
Play to what's comfortable sized and easy to use.

I enjoy 6x5 for a normal game when I can swing it - remains accessible to all players. Adds a bit of needed room. I'd play on a much larger board given a chance (and simply bump the turns if needed). I think if I had my choice, for games around 2000 points I'd prefer an 8x5.

4' wide is about the most you can reach across comfortably.
It is possible to do larger boards in a shape like "[" using 3 6x4 tables - though you'd need to house rule whether you can shoot across the gaps.

Anything beyond 4' wide and it gets pretty uncomfortable to reach models in the middle, even for taller folk like me.

I can imagine 4-5 feet wide being a pretty decent spot for people to reach into the center of the table. im sure 6 may be pushing it.
but a table going longer wouldn't be too bad. 6-8 foot.
if you wana talk about funky deployment try the odd necromunda off set tiles. thats fun.
