I'm not sure how familiar many of you are with our WW2 meets Mythos 28mm wargame, Achtung!Cthulhu but we have big plans for it in 2018, so wanted to start a thread to start to share them over time.

We are currently working on new force lists for the various factions in the game (two flavours of Germans, British, American, Deep Ones, Mi-Go and some you won't yet have seen in the model range) as well as planning a revised and edited rulebook update/companion as the game can be a little intimidating to access due to its layout and presentation.

The first part of that, is collating an FAQ and Errata document, so we are keen to hear from anyone who does (or has) played the game about anything they have encountered along the way that needed house ruling, caused confusion or was just unintuitive.

I'm putting together a Black Sun force at the moment in preparation for some upcoming releases, and will be putting up an article showing how I went about building and painting the army as a guide to help newcomers into the game.

Hopefully if you have played in the past, this re-ignites your interest in the game, and if you have never heard of the game, or never given it a go, you might join us in fighting the Secret War's greatest battles.

Didn't even realize it had a skirmish line. I knew of the RPG books but the site doesn't make it easy to find a skirmish based game in there.

Good to know! Its been a bit of a sleeper line to be honest, but I am keen to champion it as the company was built on the RPG, and this is an extension of that.

I'll feed that back to the team, and hopefully we can make it a bit more obvious. Expect to see more light being shone on the range as part of my master plan also

Plus, who doesn't want giant eldritch horrors fighting Shermans?

I’m a big fan of AC and have quite a few of the models. I’m hoping that we see more model releases in the future (such as the resin preorder early previous release for those who missed the preorder period) but I know that the bigger name properties with big launches have to take priority over this smaller line.

Chris also traded the possibility of solo play similar to Fallout being a possibility in the future if there is enough demand so I hope that is still being considered moving forward.

I'd say our wargames team breaks down into areas of interest along these broad lines (with cross over of course).

Me (Jon) - painting/hobby with the desire to have as clean and accessible a game as possible that can be played both socially and competitively (no pressure!)
James B - tournament style gamplay, again focussing on clean play and no confusion
Chris B - narrative, co-op and solo play

Chris is the boss, so he certainly has weight, so yes, expect that we will bring solo/co-op more into the system in the future , likely as part of an expansion or online PDF depending on how we end up working it.

If we can get the system into a more accessible state, then start to expand it with these new ideas, then good times right?

The resin figures are waiting for a release slot, we are deliberating on the best way to put them out, be that stand alone, or in a unit pack. This will be the next wave along with a box of Mi-Go, plus some models that I don't think people have seen yet.

Then we move into the as yet unannounced stuff. I can't say too much, but John H, Chris and myself have been having fun batting ideas around the office for both filling in the gaps in the range (hopefully the photos of me posing for the Totenkopf never see the light of day... ) as well as widening each of the forces and adding lots of cool new options, both from the existing RPG line, as well as some crazy new ideas. (crab tanks crab tanks crab tanks...)

Incoming message from HQ...

Heads up we have some MASSIVE news coming on Wednesday at midday that affects the Achtung! Cthulhu skirmish and RPG line, and something will be launching that you can take part in. [fades back in to the darkness]

In the meanwhile, for those who might not be familiar with the game or the range, here are some links to some free stuff that might whet your appetite.

https://www.modiphius.net/collections/achtung-cthulhu-skirmish/products/achtung-cthulhu-skirmish-secret-war-operations - That links to a nice starter campaign PDF, with some background and story for the current region of interest for the system, the Forest of Fear (located in the Ardenne)

https://www.modiphius.net/collections/achtung-cthulhu-skirmish/products/free-achtung-cthulhu-skirmish-catalogue-and-tales-of-the-crucible - That links to a catalogue of all the current releases, as well as some background stories for several of the brave investigators fighting against the Mythos.

Looking forward to revealing what we are referring to above next week.

So, the big Wednesday reveal...

Firstly, we are making the rulebook PDF free to download, so anyone interested in having a closer look at the game should head over to our site and grab a copy. Remember the game is fully compatible with pretty much any 28mm WW2 range, so if you have some models from the games, you can easily jump in and try out AC:Skirmish.

Secondly, a new computer game based on Achtung! Cthulhu has just gone live on Kickstarter. Head over and see what's happening here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/aurochdigitalltd/achtung-cthulhu-tactics-action-rpg-video-game?ref=nav_search&result=project&term=achtung

Even if you are not a computer gamer, it might be worth keeping an eye on the project for some of the future stretch goals... lets just say they are keeping me and the team busy alongside the excellent folks at Auroch Digital.

Come join the Secret War!

To celebrate today's launch of the Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics videogame on Kickstarter, we've decided to make Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish free to everyone! After you've downloaded your free copy, head on over to Kickstarter and search for Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics to bring the Secret War to your PC and unlock rewards, bonus heroes and a whole wealth of Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics goodies!

But first here's some info about your FREE Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish game!

Set around the events of ‘the Secret War’ Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish introduces players to the terrifying conflict fought to stop the sorcerous Nazi cult of the Black Sun from unleashing a tide of Mythos horrors against the Allies.

Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish: Rise of the Black Sun is the title of the first wave of releases during 2016 which will complete a whole story arc set around the first battles fought by the secretive Allied forces Section M, set up by the British to combat the Mythos threat and their US counterparts Majestic.

Arrayed against them are the powerful forces of Exarch Weissler’s Black Sun, who as well as conventional troops and weapons can bring devastating magical power to the battlefield, summon ancient and terrible creatures like the Servitors of Nyarlathotep, as well as powerful allies such as the Deep Ones and Mi-Go.

Take command of brave Allied forces like Badger’s Commandos and the Pathfinder Demon Hunters alongside historical army units, and lead them to victory against the Axis hordes. Deploy special hero units like Sgt Brandon Carter, Professor Richard Deadman or Ariane Dubois to take on the might of the Nazi war machine.

As the Axis, strike terror into your opponents by commanding the sorcerous Black Sun and their Mythos allies, bringing new levels of fear onto the battlefield. Call on the terrifying Deep One War Party or let the unholy Servitors of Nyarlathotep supplement your forces and crush the Allied threat.

Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish is powered by Spartan Games’ Dystopian Legions 2.0 rules set (re-written by Matthew Hope (Relic Knights, AE-WWII, Wrath of Kings, Sedition Wars) Nick Fallon and John Houlihan.

The game allows for fast playing battles from small skirmishes up to full scale conflicts. Modiphius has added new rules for Mythos powers, creatures, artefacts and spells to allow players to experience the full flavour and terror of the Achtung! Cthulhu universe with their heroes and troops. The range is designed to work alongside other popular 28mm miniature lines.

Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish Rules Feature:

A fast paced wargame rule set combining World War Two and the Cthulhu Mythos.
Uses the highly successful Dystopian Legions by Spartan Games for a fun but challenging tactical experience.
Based on the award-winning Achtung! Cthulhu roleplaying game setting by Modiphius Entertainment with
A major cast of heroes and villains, secret organisations, terrifying horrors and ancient artefacts.
Track the growing influence of the Mythos over the battlefield. As the Mythos Influence Level rises, strange and terrible things begin to happen to those involved in the conflict.
New Tactical Action Cards and ‘Model Assigned Rules’— MARs that capture the feel and flavour of the Achtung! Cthulhu settings.
Introducing rules for Mythos powers, spells and artefacts.
Stats for Achtung! Cthulhu forces as well as normal historical infantry, support weapons, vehicles and tanks.
Players from both sides can bring powerful spellcasters to bear—weaving spells across the battlefield to ensure victory over their enemy.
Written and converted by Matthew Hope (Relic Knights, AE-WWII, Wrath of Kings, Sedition Wars), with narrative design by Achtung! Cthulhu's John Houlihan.
Fully compatible with the existing Achtung! Cthulhu miniatures range.
Expand your campaigns with hero and villain characters like Sgt Brandon Carter, Ariane D’bois or ‘Sweet’ Liesel Bohm, Adawolfa Gabler, or Franz ‘the Blackbird’ Amsel.
Call for reinforcements like the Deep One war party, Servitors of Nyarlathotep, Badger’s Commandos or Demonhunter Pathfinders to rule the battlefield.
All purchases come with free download of Secret War Operations - free tutorial missions for both for both US and Black Sun operatives plus our massive Forest of Fear background storyline

Yup, each platoon can currently have one "Heavy Support" choice, which in the core game includes a Sherman or a Panzer IV.

Its built around infantry, but tanks are an option.

The core book includes "normal" US Marines and Wehrmacht Soldiers, so you can go full on historical. We add the Mythos and crazy wonder weapons.

I can't say too much, but we are currently fleshing out the various forces, starting with Black Sun and Nachtwolfe (I have a lot of briefs to write, and our concept artist is burning the midnight oil) so think of this as a jumping off point, but know that we plan on widening the game out as we move forward.

Some cool new good guys are coming too!

There are a number of named soldiers on both sides, the Allies get a good mix of pulpy tropes. No Captain America yet, but a nice dog eared Sergeant who saw some things he shouldn't have. The Germans have a number of classic villains too, evil scientists, devilish art collectors, deranged military men and women, you know the type.

We are currently working on some new iterations for existing characters, as well as some new faces, as well as back filling the missing profiles from the books and adding a whole heap more units and options. I have huge plans for AC:S, so if people are looking for a good time to jump in, now is it, as you will help me persuade the boss to let me unlock even more units and models for the game.

And that's before we even get into the expansion plans and new game formats...

I'm always looking for a good Weird War II miniatures game, so I'll be in.

If you had Super Soldiers, this would just about be perfect.

(OK, maybe if it had Mechs too!)

My favorite version of this genre setting is a game that can't quite figure out/commit to putting out their 2nd Edition, so...

Mechs have been bandied about, but we don't want to tread on Dust's toes too much, or Konflict: 47 (both put out by studio friends of ours). Does that mean the Nachtwolfe don't have access to some tech that might see the light of day soon though??? No, no it does not. They have to be putting that Blaucrystal somewhere.

Super soldiers, well, again, that Blaucrystal has an interesting effect on the human body when its injected, or even worse used to make replacement limbs/organs...

The allies better up their game if they want to win the war, because both the Black Sun and Nachtwolfe machinery of war is going to be very busy soon.

Maybe with a side dose of Comic Book Radiation too?

Some sneaky peek updates from the Kickstarter.

The new Demonhunter pose is unlocked and nearly out of sculpting too. This will give a third pose to the unit, with optional Garand or Thompson, so you can run a squad with either weapon designation now. Expect him to arrive with a reboot of the unit in the near future.

I also have the first test casts of the new Black Sun Villains sculpts in hand, and our Studio Painter starts on Monday, so guess what some of his first jobs will be?

We have also revealed the concept art for the next two figures.

The Black Sun NCO can be added to a Black Sun squad. I'm currently revising and expanding all the forces from the core book, so he now pulls double duty, armed with the MP40S (an upgraded MP40 with larger calibre bullets) he can run with a Suppression squad for flaming good fun. Armed with a FG42 he will hang back with the support squad and their MG42 and lay down covering fire to keep the enemy ducking.

We are also introducing a new concept to the game. The "Unleashed". These are characters from the range who have gone through some changes... initially these will be drawn from the allies, as the various named characters tap in to their mysterious sources of power (for better or worse) and receive new abilities, new sculpts and new in game profiles. Corporal Singh has allowed the "eye" on his amulet to fully open, and gains the ability to move faster than the eye can follow... but what is the mysterious smoke that billows around him whenever this occurs? Expect several more Unleashed characters over the rest if the year.

The Kickstarter is now funded, and we are working towards some cool stretch goals, including a big chunk of Nachtwolfe units to start fleshing that force out. I have three units lined up already, and I cannot wait to get them out of sculpting and on to the painting desk.

Presenting Achtung!Cthulhu: Combat.

For those of you interested in the world and games of A!C, we have today released a brand new way of playing. A!C: Combat is a faster, lighter way of playing in the world of the Secret War.

It uses mechanics that echo the Skirmish rule book, but has been rewritten from the ground up to let you get your models on the table faster, and in larger amounts.

Best of all, the game is free, and miniatures agnostic, so there is no risk to giving it a try.

You can download it from our store here:

https://www.modiphius.net/collections/achtung-cthulhu-skirmish/products/achtung-cthulhu-combat

On the model front, we have had the first resin run of the Black Sun wave, as well as the Allied heroes funded by our Kickstarter partnership with Auroch Digital, who are busy putting the finishing touches to A!C: Tactics.

As soon as Lewis wraps up painting them, I will show them off of course.

In the meanwhile, here are some terrible desktop shots of some of the models from this wave (Sal, our photographer wasn't about to get good shots this week, let me see what I can do next week).

Have been playing the skirmish game since the initial release. No questions come to mind that I can find of.

Chris did say they were considering making AI cards for solo play similar to the Fallout system so I hope that does see release at some point.

A board game was also mentioned at one point but I wasn’t certain if this was a miniature based game or more abstract (I would like to see a solo player friendly dungeon crawler where the allies battle through Nazi occult bases).

We will be supporting both Combat and Skirmish going forward, so a release for one is a release for both (and also for the RPG side of things if you like to use minis when you play).

Chris does love his AI games. The Fallout system has proven a good jumping off point, so you never know, it might make its way into AC in the future.

As for the Board Game, that's still underway. I can't say too much (least of all because I am not on that team) but it isn't miniatures based.

A dungeon crawl type game would be great. I can certainly float the idea for the future, though our plates are very full right now.

Hey Jon, what happened to the forums? The current one is erroring and the community site/forum that was funded during the A!C rpg kickstarter never appeared, despite some posts about it a few years back. Is there any news on that?

I'm not on the tech side of the company, so this may not be 100% accurate, but my understanding is our old forums were having major issues leading to regular black outs.

Steve has been working on a new forum, so it is coming. We may be taking on a new web guy in the near future who will likely push that over the line and give us a new place to talk that should be much more stable.

I may take the new minis to GenCon to show folks, or I may leave them for Sal to photograph. So, one way or another, someone should do better than my attempts (iPad cameras are not great...) in the near future.

Its been a while, but I wanted to drop by and show off the painted versions of the next wave of minis we are about to release. These should be in the store and available for retailers to order by April (just waiting on the packaging to arrive.

Anyone attending Adepticon, if you are a VIG you will find a copy of the A!C: Skirmish Commander set in your swag bag and we will have a small selection of the miniatures on sale.

I'll let folks know when the new toys are available to buy as soon as I can.

New products shown are:

Achtung! Cthulhu Miniatures: Black Sun Commanders

A staple of the Black Sun’s forces in the field, the Masters are a powerful, sorcerous presence during any battle. They can employ both conventional weapons and arcane sorcery to brutalise and crush their opponents.

Battlefield Royalty, the Black Sun Canons are instantly recognisable by their silk masks and mastery of the dark arts. Trained in the disciplines of pain, and terror, they are capable of wrecking utter havoc on their enemies.

As the Black Sun’s military overlord, Albrech Lohmann rules over his troops with an iron fist Cruel and Heartless to the core, his enthusiasm for the Black Sun’s ultimate triumph has made him a close confidant of Exarch Weissler.

Malevolent and mischievous, ‘Sweet’ Liesel Bohm is a Black Sun agent of renown and considers herself a true magical adept and student of the dark arts. She delights in chaos and confusion and is capable of random acts of both cruelty and generosity.

The not so good doctor Verner Verdreht appears to be a typical Nazi scientist, but the writhing tentacles replacing his arm betray him as a foul spawn of the Mythos, while his crystal ray gun is capable of cutting swathes through his foes.

This box set of 5 characters can be added into your Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish or Achtung! Cthulhu: Combat games or Achtung! Cthulhu role-playing adventures.

Achtung! Cthulhu Miniatures: Section M Ariane Unleashed

Ariane has been at the sharp end of the conflict for too long and has seen too many friends and allies fall. Her grip on the Demon that accompanies her was always tenuous, but now it has near broken. As a result, the creature can fully manifest charging into battle looking for prey.

Ariane will be found following in its wake, firing volleys from her twin lugers, often cutting down the Demon’s intended victims before it reaches them. This small mercy is better than the alternative.

This blister pack of Ariane Unleashed and her Demon can be added into your Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish or Achtung! Cthulhu: Combat games or Achtung! Cthulhu role-playing adventures.

Achtung! Cthulhu Miniatures: Section M Singh Unleashed

Larceny lead Singh to possess the eye, desperation lead to it opening. Throwing himself into ever more dangerous situations, Singh has further tapped into the power of the mysterious pendant he “found” in the jungle. Wherever he now goes, trailing fingers of the dark mist surround him, pulsating and grasping for anyone nearby. This isolates him from his fellow soldiers, but hides him from the enemy, making him hard to target on the battlefield.

When he reaches enemy lines, the true power of the amulet is revealed, as it fully opens, and Singh moves faster than can be followed. Appearing as though in multiple places at once, Singh’s blade reaps a bloody harvest from German soldiers who barely even register that their doom has arrived.

This blister pack of Singh Unleashed and can be added into your Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish or Achtung! Cthulhu: Combat games or Achtung! Cthulhu role-playing adventures.
Contents

Achtung! Cthulhu Miniatures: Section M Natalya Unleashed

The cold grip of winter is never far from where Natalya goes. She emerges suddenly from icy mists, ploughing into enemy units.

However, where previously the shadowy creature that could be glimpsed reaching from around her seemed contained, it now bursts into action, crawling from the darkness surrounding her and reaching out to rip and tear.

Able to shred tanks and bunkers without concern, this entity is known as the Spirit of the Motherland by Natalya and seems willing to assist in her efforts to bring ruin to the Axis forces, for now...

This blister pack of Natalya Unleashed and her Spirit of the Motherland can be added into your Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish or Achtung! Cthulhu: Combat games or Achtung! Cthulhu role-playing adventures.

Achtung! Cthulhu Miniatures: Allied Heroes Liebowitz and McMasters

Horrifically wounded by the Black Sun, Liebowitz’s mind was opened up to the power of the Mythos, his body mutated into a twisted blasphemy of tentacled flesh. When he loses control, his unconscious mind exacts a terrible revenge on his tormentors.

A much decorated and ever so slightly deranged Allied hero, Mad Jacks fearless nature, ability to inspire men and mastery of both longbow and his broadsword ‘Nelly’ make him one of the Allies’ most potent weapons.

Leading the men of the Greywatch into battle, he never shirks from the front line and is eager to reap a toll with both blade and bow.

This blister pack of Corporal Liebowitz and Jack McMasters and can be added into your Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish or Achtung! Cthulhu: Combat games or Achtung! Cthulhu role-playing adventures.

Achtung! Cthulhu Miniatures: Demonhunter Pathfinders

Only the bravest, most spiritual warriors of the North American tribes learn the ways of the demons and how to defeat them. These fearsome warriors are armed with a tomahawk, Tinglit armour and Thompson SMGs.

This box set of six Warriors can be added into your Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish or Achtung! Cthulhu: Combat games or Achtung! Cthulhu role-playing adventures.

Ok, its been a while, Cthulhu slumbers deeply, but the promised new releases for the AC minis line have finally arrived on the webstore.

https://www.modiphius.net/collections/achtung-cthulhu-skirmish?page=1

As of today you can get hold of three new sets of Black Sun models, including the Die Toten and Die Totenkopf (finally!) as well as the terrifying new Auserwahlten.

These sets are all made in resin not metal and come from the same in house factory as our Elder Scrolls and some of the Fallout line.

I appreciate everyone's patience with this, updating the range was one of the first tasks I set myself when I took over the wargames dpt here at Modiphius and that was over two years ago now.

We've kept prices down on these, though to offset that they will not be available in retail (at least for a while) as the price drop would be swallowed up by distro/stores if we did push through standard channels.

I'm doing a whole bunch of work around the line and the future of the game as I see it as my pet project and a nice distraction from our licenced games (I get a bit more freedom with AC) so I hope we will continue to roll out the planned releases over time.

Again, thanks for hanging in there, Black Sun players you can finally field everything in the AC core rule book or feel free to use these in your WWW games or pulp adventures.

Enjoy.
