I think just about any AC/DC songs make for a great soundtrack well playing games of 40K. What do you all go for as the best soundtrack when your playing?
Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Bathory (you can play Nordland 1&2 back to back and that's about a full 2000pt game) any Iron Maiden, Crystal Vyper, Sabaton (lots of Sabaton) all Amon Amarth, Cirith Ungol, Carpathian Forest, Mayhem, Gravedigger, Brocas Helm, Megadeth, oh and Black Sabbath, not to mention The Gods, The Stooges, The Doors, Daft Punk, Carcass, Burzum, and Dimmu fething Borgir.
Oh and maybe a little Hal Ketchum...

I've always wanted to build a Drop Pod army where the Drop Pods were wireless speakers and when you put em on the table you could play Slayers Reign in Blood and headbang.

I have a hard time playing games and concentrating when listening to ordinary tunes, i'll get the lyrics in my head or get em stuck in my brain. Rolling dice and gaming is generally not an intense experience for me, it's not like working out or getting drunk and pumped up. I prefer stuff that is moody background soundscapes. I just make playlists, like my Necromunda playlist would contain tracks like these:
A lot of Cliff Martinez stuff would do just fine, and a few key choices from other sci fi movies.
The 2016 Doom soundtrack also works okay for me. It's gotta be like a movie soundtrack or game soundtrack something less distracting. I'd find a lot of heavy metal pretty distracting but Burzum works sometimes, but not for sci fi, cause it is kind of like a droning white noise to me most of the time.
When ever I play my guard and have Vendettas/Valkyries I always hear "Ride of the Valkyries" play in my head and one time had it play as they came in. Was awesome.

People go to church and pray to entities for whatever reason. This guy just has his own set of theories. If 2000 years ago some guy wrote a book about the warp while lighting a bush on fire - there would be a whole bunch of people in temples right now worshiping warp related activity.

Seconded these sort of albums. Movie OST's especially 300 etc really help add atmosphere. I usually put on the Dawn of War 2 OST as it has awesome tunes that are perfect for the 40k vibe
"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.
To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.
And to you, new-born sons of Gulliman, to you flesh crafted puppets of a failing Imperium I bring the holiest gift of all.... Silence."
- Mortarion, The Death Lord, The Reaper of Men, Daemon Primarch of Nurgle
I'm both orderly and rational. I value control, information, and order. I love structure and hierarchy, and will actively use whatever power or knowledge I have to maintain it. At best, I am lawful and insightful; at worst, I am bureaucratic and tyrannical.
Huge Nostalgia hit right there. Original C&C sound track bring me right back to those late nights ignoring High School homework

Quite similiar here - there are pieces from 300, Tron, Mad Max: Fury Road, Ender's Game, Wonder Woman, Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman, Inception, Speed, Kingsman and King Arthur on my "battle playlist". "Redemption" from Mad Max is always first as it nicely "jump starts" my enthusiasm I think a good playlist adds a LOT to gaming experience. My Necromunda soundtrack is completely different and is a mix between Fallout 1&2 OST and Alien3.
There are a few music pieces before the battle starts, one is carmina burana, another is globus with preliator, q-factory has some nice epic music as well. And of course any dawn of war soundtrack is never wrong. I also like sabaton.
So the local GW has this corporate approved playlist consisting of tracks from film soundtracks with a general war theme. The selection is to very extensive and has become a bit of a choke there, people will sing along to the Pirates of the Carribean theme or gossip breathlessly about Vasilis Zaitsev when they realize it's the theme from Enemy at the Gates, etc. It would drive me absolutely bonkers if I worked there.
As for me, I find any album with lyrics is too distracting for actual games, (good when you're coming up with an army concept, sure; but not when you actually need to concentrate on the goings on.) and I generally look towards a sweet spot with a reasonably energetic beat but not intrusive enough to distract.
Video game soundtracks are typically a good fit because they're designed with those criteria in mind. I see Frank Klepacki has been mentioned already (love the Grey Goo soundtrack!) which is great, but my personal go-to are the Turrican soundtracks by Chris Huelsbeck and others.
Strategy games are also a good source of this, I'll still hold that Terran 1-4 are much too good to be wasted on StarCraft players.

Lol, well it's not like I'm air guitaring and gyrating on my opponents turn! Haha, that might throw some folks off their game, maybe it's worth a try?
You know it's funny that most people who don't listen to metal all the time always think the music is so aggressive and adrenaline filled. Honestly I can throw on any band I mentioned and have a pretty relaxing time just painting. But different strokes, right?
One video I always loved on YouTube was the original DoW intro with Chosen Ones by... Erg forget by who but I'm sure every warhammer player ever has seen it.

Nah, kinda fits right in. Especially when your flying demon prince jumps on a pile of guardsmen and starts chopping dudes up. Then gets murderized by fifteen different heavy weapon teams.
Wasn't there actually a band that wrote songs about warhammer and got GW approved?
You simply cannot have an epic 40k experience without listening to the Klendathu Drop piece from the Starship Troopers soundtrack. I contend it is the most 40k piece of music ever created.
