Subject: [2000] - Death Guard/Iron Warriors + Nurgle Daemons - DG CD IW
Fun "Friendly" list. C&c away. I would like to know if Herald loadout is decent, or should I take Fleshy Abundance on both to make sure one is always around when I need it.
I have 10 CPs to play with and while I would like to take a Daemon Prince from CD for the Locus and better Warlord Trait, taking them from DG saves me a command point on grabbing the Relic Armor, for more for Healing Strategems and Endless Cacophony VOTLW plays.
The list:
DG Battalion Detachment:
DP of Nurgle, Wings, Talons, Supporating Plate, Warlord: Revoltingly Resilient, Miasma of Pestilence 180
DP of Nurgle, Wings, Sword, Blades of Putrefaction 180
So, Heralds buff Daemon Princes. I try to get Virulent, and Blades off on the Sword Prince for high damage on 5+ to wound.
Lord and Oblits Deepstrike in, unload EC and VOTLW. This is where I wish the DP were CD so they can benefit from the Nurgle healing Strategem as well.... But I try to revive any Nurgle Oblits that goes down with the CSM strategem, and drones with the CD strategem. Drones all escort the Princes up the field. Pox Walkers screen with Nurglings.
I have an alternate build with CD Prince, Herald and DG Prince and Plague Caster for a variation on Synergy, perhaps that list is stronger?

It looks pretty solid, I think if one were inclined to nitpick you could probably save a few points and pick up a bit of tactical flexibility by downgrading a couple of the Pox Walkers squads to Cultists. I think the number of Pox Walker squads you have is a bit redundant.
I'm not enthused by Plague Drones, I feel like that's another squad of Oblterators that could be doing a lot more work against a wider range of targets.
You could upgrade the Chaos Lord to a Sorcerer with MoP/Prescience and park him with the Havocs that you could upgrade to Lascannons (Lascannon Havocs with Veterans is death, especially with IW). This potentially frees up target selection for the Obliterators so that you don't feel obligated to only fire them at hard targets.
Good bones, probably a lot of flexibility in how you tweak it over time.

drop a unit of poxwalkers, change obliterators into mark of nurgle, and add a Feculent gnarlmaw.
Giving those obliterators a 0+save against shooting, and the ability to fallback and shoot if anything tries to hold them up in cc.

Daemon Prince of Nurgle [9 PL, 180pts]: 1. Revoltingly Resilient, Malefic talon, Miasma of Pestilence (or Blades of Putrefaction), The Suppurating Plate, Warlord, Wings
Plagueburst Crawler [8 PL, 146pts]: 2x Entropy cannon, Heavy Slugger
Plagueburst Crawler [8 PL, 146pts]: 2x Entropy cannon, Heavy Slugger
Plagueburst Crawler [8 PL, 146pts]: 2x Entropy cannon, Heavy Slugger
Sorcerer [6 PL, 98pts]: Bolt pistol, Force stave, Mark of Nurgle, Miasma of Pestilence, Death Hex (or Presience)
Obliterators [10 PL, 195pts]: Mark of Nurgle, 3x Obliterator
Obliterators [10 PL, 195pts]: Mark of Nurgle, 3x Obliterator
Obliterators [10 PL, 195pts]: Mark of Nurgle, 3x Obliterator
Chaos Cultists [9 PL, 124pts]: Mark of Nurgle
. 29x Chaos Cultist w/ Autogun
. Cultist Champion: Autogun
++ Total: [108 PL, 1995pts] ++
I use three CP before the game starts typically, two DP deepstrike, and the cultists infiltrate. If you go first you can control most of the board with nurglings and cultists, build obliterator bastions wherever you want with a DP behind them for rerolls and miasma/fleshy. As the game progresses the Tally will maintain rerolls for the Oblits while the DP run off an start killing weak units. If you go second, all your important stuff is in the air and they have to shoot PBC (which are durable as all hell).
Alternatively, you can deploy as a bubble wrapped castle with the warlord trait Arch Contaminator (reroll the mortar shots from the PBC), then buff a PBC with Presience and Blades, and it will kill anything it shoots. Just some ideas, our lists are really similar.

I... actually like this list. Really killy, but fluffy at the same time. Kind of light on bodies though. How do you handle horde armies? Just rely on PBC flamers to carry the day?
Yeah horde on paper does bother me, initially I had my cultists as slaanesh and PBC flamers to account for this. But I've played guard and orcs and done very well; I think the army has enough volume of shots (about 60 shots a turn, not including cultists) especially with the amount of built in rerolls. Once the tally kicks in, obliterators are doing as much (albeit no ap) damage in melee as they are shooting, and the three daemon princes are critical when I'm being assaulted (they hit str 8 with the tally and maelific talons, which shred chaff). I castle and hope to hurt them enough with my alpha strike to rely on durable threats to outlast them in combat.
