Warhammer World’s Exhibition is home to a ever-growing number of fantastic dioramas (about 25 of them as this post goes live) and they’re usually the first thing our visitors fill their camera memory cards with, and stop to ask staff about. Which is why at the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Open Day we’re launching a book about them.
Over the past few months the Exhibitions Curator and Warhammer World Studio team have been busy jotting down design notes, working with photographers and hanging over the shoulder of our (very patient) Graphic Designer, to bring the Warhammer World dioramas to the page.
The focus of the dioramas book is the high quality photographs, including close ups and angles you just won’t be able to reach with your own camera. Alongside these we have the narrative background for each diorama, and notes, including some of the facts and figures from building them.
For people interested in how dioramas on this scale are built, it would take a whole book of its own to cover the different techniques, tools and materials, but we do take you behind the scenes for a few pages to show each broad stage from Concept to Installation.
Available exclusively at Warhammer World, released on March 3rd 2018, the dioramas book makes a great addition to your exploration of the Exhibition, and the perfect souvenir of your visit.

Such a bummer that it is only available at warhammer world. Selling to people who will never be able to visit would be a much better idea.

^ This.
I know they want to incentivise visits to a certain extent, but they must know that their global player base means there are a substantial number of customers willing to pay money for such things who will never get the opportunity to do so.

Yeah...
I see these announcements, see that they're location-locked to Warhammer World or time-locked to a GW store opening/birthday and sigh. FFG does the same thing where they announce certain special events... that only happen in their Minnesota headquarters. These are essentially local store events that the majority of the player base doesn't care about as they can't realistically take advantage.

At least with the store birthdays--you literally have a year for the item in question. They aren't "timelocked" to 2017 or 2018--it's available on the next store birthday.

That's true, but fans banding together to work around GW's bizarre decisions doesn't change the fact that in this specific case they're making a monumentally bizarre decision. This is a product that is almost tailor made for people who can't attend the venue in person...and it's only available to buy in person at the venue

I'm not sure its a 'monumentally bizarre' business decision.
I'm not even sure its bizarre. Its not going to be a popular one with some people, but its also not a million miles away from a guidebook that you can purchase if you visit a museum/historically significant location. I worked at WHW many years ago, and it is a destination for many international visitors. We had many people who were on a holiday/business trip to the UK and had diverted to Nottingham for a few hours/days to see WHW.
I am lucky that as I live near WHW I can pop and get it - although slightly bizarrely the fact I can get it at any point makes it much less desirable!
I also equate it a little to being a UK based NFL fan. I'd love to get my hands on some of the merchandise that seems to be US only. And id love to go to a live game in the US, but geography limits those things.
Or I guess its like people who live near Disneyland, who can get the exclusive stuff from there (speaking of which I'd love to be able to get a copy of the book that we saw but didn't pick up that shows how to draw Disney characters like the artists for my wife if anyone does live near there!)
I've purchased and posted WHW exclusives across Europe, the US and Australia to help people who are not fortunate enough to get it for geographical reasons or who cant afford the travel, because it does suck that fellow hobbyists cant get these bits, however companies across the globe have exclusive items that are only available at specific locations.

You'll note the lack of the word "business" in my comment. I don't doubt the product will make money only being sold at WHW, what's bizarre is that it could obviously make more money by catering also to people who can't make that trip themselves, and buy GW a bit of goodwill into the bargain.
Also, you bring up other companies also pointlessly limiting access to things as if that mitigates how pointless it is. When Jackass was a big thing loads of people were sticking fireworks up their backside and lighting them, the fact many people were doing it doesn't make it any less stupid.

Yeah, I would definitely purchase this, but I probably won't get to warhammer world any time soon (or ever...). When I do travel, it's either with the family, or for work, and in both situations, neither group would want to go with me to WHW, so it would be me trying to schedule a trip by myself, leaving the family, or taking a day away from work (which most work trips a set up, so there isn't too much free time for such things).
I get the incentive to draw people in, but, I feel that getting to see these specific things in person is worth the trip for most. It's not like hawaii is going to only sell books on hawaii 'IN' hawaii (I realize comparing WHW to hawaii is quite a stretch, but, just trying to prove a point). Selling a book that shows off the cool stuff that happens at your place 'ONLY AT YOUR PLACE', seems kind of silly. The fact that they only sell certain miniatures at WHW has never bothered me though, for some reason?

Would love a copy but doubt I'll ever be able to justify traveling to london just for a book.

It won't do you much good going to London - GW is thankfully far outside of the alien world that is the Capitol. Instead they are way up in Nottingham. So not only can you visit Warhammer World - and also the Forgeworld shop - but also visit Sherwood Forest

But if you're flying from the USA, you will stop there, it's unavoidable (from what I can see, and cheapest too). So you'll either fly to london, and take a domestic flight closer to Nottingham, or fly to london, and drive to Nottingham.

Or take a train from London. The UK public transport system, for all it’s woes, is far superior to anything I’ve seen in the US. But I digress...

Whilst it's true you'll likely be flying in to London from the USA, Nottingham is excellently connected through the train services. You'd barely reach altitude in a domestic flight between London and Nottingham...

Trains here are far far far worse than the USA where it's almost civilised. Rest of the public transport is better though.
Anyhow, I'm another person lucky enough to live close to WHW but it is a cool book for them to do as there is a ton of detail on the dioramas and I still see new stuff on some of them after multiple visits , plus over time some of them are not as accessible to photo as they used to be. Interested to see what they price this at. I'll be at the 3rd march open day so can post the price up if it's not spoiled before then.

Yeah. I should have specified. I'm from California and pretty much all practical trips involving flying there and taking ground transport to where you want to go. I hope someday to make it to Edinbrough.
