On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Not sure if anyone will be able to help about this or not - I think perhaps not, but I've not kept up with the Heresy background developments over the past few years so not sure if there may have been developments or more tit-bits given since then?

Are there any notable engagements between the 13th Legion World Eaters and Orks during the Great Crusade?
If possible would be after the legion found Angron (so are called World Eaters, rather than War Hounds) but before the Heresy itself (so are still 'good guys' - at least on paper)

I've checked:
- Ullanor - It mentions all Primarchs and legions were present for the crowning of Horus as Warmaster afterwards, but doesn't mention them during the campaign. I know it's quite likely they might have been (but is there anything official?)
- Have checked the Wiki/Lexicanum, which seems to be pretty comprehensive. Only thing I can find it the WE terrorising and killing other humans, with the phrase 'no -one was left alive' used quite a lot. No mention of Orks :(

I want to recreate some battles for Epic/6mm (and possibly a campaign) - it would be good if there was something 'official' to use - if not its fan-fic all the way.

Very grateful if anyone has picked up on anything!

Don't remember any mention but crusade engagements are spare in knowledge. What can be said though is they fought. A lot

This is one of those read between the lines things, did they fight orks, absolutely, is it written anywhere, nope, when it comes to beating the orks at their own game, no other legion is as well suited.

I would say that you can safely assume that all legions came into contact with the orks during that time period, including the World Eaters who would have relished the challenge.

I saw with eyes then young, and this is my testament.

I found one example in the Lexicanium vaults after a quick look, the Golgothan Slaughter officially pitted the World Eaters against Orks.

You might be able to find more if you dig around.

Many thanks for the feedback guys. Interesting info there Kroem, it's funny I have the original Collected Visions books and can't remember reading that story, will have to go back to it.

Definitely a quite cool bit of retro-40k fluff there with the Orks fighting as mercenaries. Sounds like a cool idea!

Its also in one of the HH novels (Horus Rising if I remember), Kharn is talking with Loken and his other buddy captain (cant remember his name) while walking through a trophy room on the Sons of Horus Battle Barge, and its pointed out that the World Eaters are butchers, and don't keep trophies from their conquests. Kharn agrees with the butcher comment, and says the World Eaters destroy any trace of their foes, as their defeat makes them unworthy of remembrance.

So they could fight anyone really, and it wouldn't be tracked unless there was another Imperial force alongside them.

And yet, in the novel Betrayer they have a museum dedicated to their victories inside their flagship

Gotta love that Black Library consistency. I've only read the first 3 books

To be fair there are far, far worse idiosyncrasies in the series.

Although not to put you off Inquisitor Lord Bane - think the first 4-5 books, and then selected others, are well worth a read.

Many thanks for the replies. I'm leaning towards just making up my own worlds and component of the expedition, on the grounds that it's very unlikely to be written out officially.

Thought what might be cool is to have the Crusade actually invading some Orc worlds at the end of the campaign - so rather than just the usual fighting amongst the ruins of human cities, actually some ork buildings and towns, Gargant construction sites, mines and things of that nature. Would be a different twist on the usual and maybe some better terrain building opportunities.

Well 11 Legions were involved in the assult on the Krooked Claw Empire (of which the Battle of Rust formed a part) so it is certainly possible that the Warhounds were amongst them.

It's quite a specific window though between Angron being found and the World Eaters still being loyal

Not quite linked to this, but I remember reading one of the little "story boxes" in an old codex, can't remember if it was Ork or Chaos, but basically a mob of Boyz were looking fer a right good scrap and came over the top of a hill to find a squad of Berzerkers (post Heresy) caught up in a blood frenzy. The Orks who were always ready for a good scrap weren't ready for the sheer depraved lunacy of the Berzerkers.

Always made me chuckle.

Yes that's very true. To be honest I have very few World Eater-specific components (destroyers, berserkers etc.)

I suppose there would be nothing to stop me playing them as War Hounds (as they were still in the same white and blue). Although then it might be a case of finding a suitable dog-head type decal in 6mm..

Thanks Jorim - have just checked that out.
There aren't many on there but guess I could use a few to show the legion is transitioning to the new name.

But bloody £16! +p&p! Argh! (As Angron would say) Suppose just bite the bullet and pay as that will do a good few tank companies..

Something I have always wondered, a load of world eaters were send to the outer rim, a load of Raven guard were also send out there, anyone else think this is where Carcaradons come from?

Just found this, no idea if it's official (although can't remember seeing it any of the HH collected visions books)

If you mean Space Sharks then yes. Can't imagine the WE using latin or a word more than 3 syllables
