FAQQ: A number of abilities allow a unit to arrive during the battle and be set up more than 9" from any enemy models. If I use such an ability to set up as close as allowed towards an enemy unit and then select it as the target of the charge, what is the minimum charge distance I need to roll to make a successful charge (assuming no modifiers)?
A: 9.
You have to arrive MORE than 9" away, you can't be exactly 9" away. Since you're 9.00001" away, a roll of 8 would put you 1.00001" away, thus failing the charge.
Also since your thread title asks a totally different question, that of "Do you get an extra attack for charging in to close combat?" the answer is no, not by default. Some units have a special rule that does, but you don't get a bonus attack by default anymore, you get to attack first instead.
