POWER RANGERS COMING TO THE TABLETOP
Renegade Game Studios Partners with Saban Brands
Posted by Nicole Bunge on March 13, 2018 @ 12:11 pm CT
Renegade Game Studios has announced a licensing agreement with Saban Brands to release Saban’s Power Rangers tabletop games.
Saban’s 25-year-old Power Rangers franchise involves 20 teams, from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to Turbo Rangers to Dino Charge Rangers. The games will focus on the Power Rangers’ core values of teamwork, inclusivity, and diversity.
Last month, Saban recently named Hasbro, Inc. as its new master toy licensee, effective April 1, 2019. Saban and former licensee Bandai announced an end to their 25-year partnership (see “Hasbro Lands Power Rangers Toy License”).
BOOM! Studios’ Power Rangers comic series will be launching it’s first-ever crossover event this month (see “Preview: 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' #25”).
This is literally all they have, no word on what the games will be like.

You get 5 sentai, I get 100 putties and a boss, you can't use your big power up until 5 minutes before the end of the game...
It could work.

This might actually be cool. I will probably pick it up just for the novelty.
But the big question for me is, Hasbro has owned Wizards of the Coast since 1999, WHY isn't there a Transformers RPG?!

There's a Transformers CCG coming this year at least. That's taken a surprisingly long time too.

it is geared for like 8+, so probably not that compelling.
Anyway, I can't wait for this game. The idea of making your own Power Ranger team is really cool to me.

Hasbro doesn't really know what to do with GI Joe 90% of the time. At least Transformers has had a rather robust history and had toylines since its inception.
But really though, Hasbro signs a deal with Saban and puts a game out damn near at the same time. 34 years of Transformers, and all we get is a CCG.
I suppose if there is a way to make a Zord that has a humanoid form, you could sort of make a Headmaster or Powermaster using the rules.

Hasbro can't even find someone to make a decent Transformers movie...

There's a fairly decent fan-made Transformers RPG.

I have to question what I’d like more, the sentai fighters, or their zords?
The sentai teams are all pretty much the same (just different human actors), it was their zords & the monsters which made them different. It seems like that would make for a more interesting game. The space rangers vs Zeds super putties seems kind of lame compared to one of the later series megazords vs early series monsters (or other teams zords).
There better be plenty of ‘Bulk & Skull’ from different series stretch goals!

I am seriously hoping that the Ranger and the Zord are both things the player gets to decide. I do think they need to be cohesive, but I hope they are not set.

When it comes I hope it is 28mm and focused on individuals and uses Heroscape terrain. They can reuse the terrain for a 15mm prepainted vehicle combat version next. Waves of Hiss tanks. Waves and waves. Destro's gotta eat.

Transformers has had a miniatures game and a previous buildable card game, both of which bombed hard. There's a reason they don't do more Transformers gaming related stuff.
