I saw something interesting on page 31 of the new Tau Codex. They're breaking down Tau military organization, and as an example they have Commander O'Namo's Hunter Cadre. The thing I thought was interesting was that it was more than twice the size of the previous examples of Hunter Cadres I had seen. This one had the following:
Commander with Bodyguard
12 Fire Warrior Teams (six in Devilfish)
4 Pathfinder Teams in Devilfish
2 Kroot Carnivore squads
1 Riptide
4 Crisis Teams
7 Hammerheads/Skyrays
4 Razorsharks

The previous examples of Hunter Cadres I'd seen usually had 2-6 Fire Warrior teams and plenty of other units (Tau are big into combined arms) but not as many as in that example. It's possible that this particular Hunter Cadre was unusually large because it was the personal Hunter Cadre of the Tau Commander who was leading an entire Commune (the largest type of Fire Caste military organization) but I would expect them to put more of a "normal" example in the Codex.

This might be the kind of detail that others find boring, but for some reason I've always found it interesting. I was trying to decide how to break up the heaps of Tau I bough over the last couple months into Cadres (I'm trying to build a lore-friendly Apocalypse army) and I'm not sure if the new example is closer to what an "average" Hunter Cadre would be or if the standard examples used in most previous books would be closer to average.

That is interesting; this is the sort of thing I'm always noticing in new codex releases, too, because I generally try to keep my collections lore-friendly as well.

It could just be one of those gradual scale-ups they do over time when a previous example in the background seems to be boxing them in. I've noticed other instances of this on occasion - for instance, I believe the 5th(?) vanilla Marine codex gave precise numbers for each of the different vehicles in the chapter's armoury - an exact count on the number of Rhinos, Predators, Thunderhawks, etc.

...Nowadays the chapter organization charts just tend to say "Predators" and "Thunderhawks" and leave the hard numbers out of it, which I find kind of interesting (but also a little frustrating).

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

The hunter cadres in the fluff tended to follow the old force org chart, hence why there was never more than 6 fire warrior teams.if you want something bigger, then you need a Contingent of cadres.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!
