This week I have been working on one of the Primaris Lieutenants from the Dark Imperium box set who will be destined to lead my noble Crimson Fists in battle.

I really like this model and I find that it has a great dynamic pose to it! It is very enjoyable to paint with a nice wide open stance that makes it easier to get to all the details.

I painted the model to fit in with the rest of my force and I took time to repeat the power blade effect that I used on the Primaris Captain that I completed last week. I am really pleased with how this green effect has turned out, though the blending took absolutely ages.

I’ll be using this guy in a battle tomorrow so I hope he lives up to the paint job I have given him. I’ll try and work in the other Lieutenant from the Dark Imperium box set next.

He looks good. I like the red stripe on the helmet, I don't think I've seen that on a Crimson Fist before but it works really well.

Just one thing bothers me a bit: I don't like the choice of green for the blade. With it you have red, green, and blue: he's supposed to be a "Primaris" marine, not a "primary (colour)" marine! I would have gone for either a bright red or blue (yes, even though those are major colours in the rest of the model), or a purple (works with both red and blue).

Also the darker shades of green look more like crystal effect than a glow effect? I assume that's not what you were going for?

Having said that, taken on it's own the sword IS very nicely painted; those blends are great! I would happily slap a gloss coat on that and treat it as a crystal blade.

Ah, one tiny extra comment: I wonder if he would look a bit better if both the wings on his chest and on his right leg were in the same colour? It's a very minor detail and I'm not sure either way, just something to think about.

Cheers guys. Yeah those edge highlights do take a whole but they’re worth it in the end!!

Great job. How did he perform in your game?

"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends."
