Which book has priority in point costs? The reason I bring this up is that I noticed some discrepancies in the point costs between the 2. Normally the last published is given the benefit as to being proper but with GW I'm not sure that should be the case.

Enhanced Data Tether Forge Bane 9 points Chapter Approved 5 points.

Forge Bane was probably written before Chapter Approved, with no communication between the teams writing it.

Another example of GW being incompetent. In short, we don't know, discuss it pre-game. I would say that since Forge Bane was released after Chapter Approved 2017, it would take precedence until Chapter Approved 2018 or other errata changes it.

It just means it was printed first and stored for release later. A release shuffle by Marketing, not incompetence by anyone involved in writing it.

Use the Codex/Chapter Approved Points for Matched Play.

Technically Forgebane is the most recent publication so it takes precedence.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Frankly I would consider Forgebane an isolated box not part of 40k as a whole. But then again nothing has been stated "Offically" but I don't see GW back stepping on the skitarii points change.

Technically, it is the latest - but it's one thing to include point updates in a $35 dollar "Chapter Approved" book, it's another to bury an updated point value in a $160 box set.

I would personally use the Codex/Chapter Approved point value, but it's worth discussing with your opponent/TO if you're concerned about it. Personally, it came out a week before the Necron Codex, and had wildly different unit profiles - if it came out the week after instead, I would not have considered it more relevant.

2k poorly optimized Necrons.
1k poorly assembled Sisters.

That would be an odd position to take... does that mean Armigers could not be fielded in competitive play?

If you consider that Forgebane rules should take precedence, then it becomes a required purchase for AM players, because they wouldn't have the most up-to-date rules without that box (the same way CA is a non-optional purchase for 40K).
I don't think it's fair to ask of every AM player to get the Forgebane rules. Therefore, I don't think it's fair to ask of the AM players who did buy the box to use the newly published rules which aren't as good.

And just to be clear, the point cost in Forgebane is the same as the point cost in the codex, so it is the cost that was valid before CA?

That doesn't matter. Forgebane is the newer product, and 30 years of precedence has told us the newest rules override older rules.

I agree that its probably unintended. I agree its dumb. I agree its unfair.

But...

There is specifically a ruling saying the most current publication is the one your expected to use. Take that for what it is and do what you want to do with it.

Good lord... there’s being overliteral and then there’s telling every AM player they must buy a starter box to update some points. Seriously? aPPly some common sense, peeps!

Expect a FAQ at some point for Forgebane, which will change the point costs to match Chapter Approved (plus any other errata they find)
