Thinking about starting a Necron army around 1k points. Dont have any models yet, can get whatever is needed. Just looking for a list idea that would be fun to play in casual games.

I'd recommend a good core of warriors, some immortals and then what ever models you like. Wraiths are great, look cool, imposing and can be nasty. Priority though are a big squad of warriors. Then add forge bane or starter set. I like the idea of hordes of undead space robots marching around. I don't collect based on how competative a unit is I play it if I like it.

++(Battalion Detachment+5cp)[Necrond]{Dynastic code-Meprhit}(1000pts)

+HQ+ Warlord Trait-Immortal Pride

Overlord-Staff of Light Relic-Voltaic Staff (94pts)-Warlord

Cryptek-Staff of Light, Chronometron (95pts)

Immortals(85pts)

Canoptek Wraiths(220pts)
.4 w/vicious claws

+Heavy Support+

Doomsday Ark(193pts)
.1 w/2 guass Flayer Arrays& A big bazooka

(1000pts of Necrons)

I Picked Mephrit because the AP-1 is huge for the Warriors in rapid fire range. One shot at S4 ap-1 or when rapid firing two shots at S4 ap-2 makes your Warriors a huge threat.
I'm no expert either but I'm pretty sure you'll have fun with this list.

- The reanimation protocol definitely calls for spamming models in units. Taking 10 warriors rather than 20 is never a good move (speaking from experience here! ).
- I'd invest in a couple of annihilation barges, their quantum shielding, movement and guns are all quite impressive for Necrons!
- Definitely grab a ghost ark for transport too, because the movement of warriors is ridiculously slow, they just sit like lemons without that extra boost (again, experience ).
- Scarabs are fantastic for holding objectives, so plenty of those will help your cause, and potentially a spyder to boost them

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but if you have any questions on specific units, just lemme know

whats your opinion on destroyers vs DDA.
can get 3 destroyers for about the same points as 1DDA. and RA on them seems fun.
One of the main reason i think necrons will be fun, bringing stuff back from the dead.
they both seem to fill kind of the same role, though DDA is better for anti tank.

Yeah, DDA is definitely a tank killer! I'd also say it's more durable thanks to quantum shielding. Destroyers are very nice, but you do need a lot of them (and often something blocking them) else they can get wiped out fast. It depends on how you feel on spamming, basically!

Personally, I'd say both are good, but I'd be more swayed on the DDA. Necrons have very few effective tank killers, so while having a small speedy unit such as destroyers is very nice, the DDA wins for me. (However, I actually field both, so if you're able to do the same then I'd highly recommend it! )

Also, some things I forgot earlier:
- tomb blades! If points aren't a massive issue, they can carry some decent stuff eg: no cover save for enemies, good choice of weapons and have a 3+ save. They're certainly not essential, more like the seasoning on a good meal!
- Triarch Stalker. Incredibly hard to kill, and if you attack as many enemies as possible with it, any attacks from that point made on that enemy unit, from any of your units, can re-roll hits of one on shooting attacks. That definitely comes in handy.

I prefer bigger squads for the troops and having just doomsday ark as the only non infantry unit it's going to get shot to pieces quick and be a bullet magnet. A squad of wraiths as well would make them have to assess target priority. Maybe drop some immortals and up the Warriors.?

Sorry misread the last canoptek unit as scarabs, ignore me. Wraiths are in there.

I just started myself and I can also tell you that you need bigger units 10 and 5 are very easy to kill. Even 3 Wraiths can be killed in one turn. The only thing (yet) that have not been killed in one turn are my characters and Lychguard with blade and shield.

This is true, I'd stick the two 5-man units together to make 10, drop the last 5 men (or add 5 more, either way is good), and definitely get 20 warriors. Those things drop like flies!

feel like its hard to get bigger troop units at 1k points.
either get bigger troop units and drop everything else, or smaller and take other stuff.

i bumped warriors up to 20, but to keep a battalion the immortals have to stay at 5 in order to take the other units.

Got a 875 tournament in June

Planning on using

Nephrekh

Cryptek

4 scarabs
4 scarabs
6 destroyers

doomsday ark
doomsday ark

think this would be a strong start to any army, as in such a small better, the fire power should overwhelm the opponent
