Some nice entries this month. Only a few really got my attention though for voting; Marine_with_heart - dig the cultists. Feltmonkey and Modock also got a nod.

Nice work guys.

Well, another challenge is in the books, so here's who I voted for this time around:
straken619: Bane looks great, especially his clothing. Really fits the challenge theme as well!
ZoBo: Very well executed Ork! I'm a big fan of that trophy rack.
Paradigm: Necromunda models are perfect for your gritty, weathered painting style, and you pulled them off well.
ChaosDad: I love Alpha Legion, and this model is really cool to me!
Chris56: Another very thematic choice for the challenge, and very solid paintwork as well.

Very wide range of interpretations for the theme, which is always a fun part of these challenges. I'm pretty happy with my own entry, although my photo skills still aren't up to scratch. Shout out as always to Paradigm for organizing and running these things (and congrats on your upcoming graduation!). See you all in the 3-color Maximum challenge!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

I voted for way less this time around, maybe it's because I'm doing it in the morning instead of the evening but I just didn't feel anything for most of the entries.

SirOllox: Funny little scene going on there. Nice use of those spears!
Marine_With_Heart: I'm quite fond of all the rust. Well done, I'm curious for your recipe. (I've seen a lot, but I think I like your effect best.)
ZoBo: What a frightning banner that ork is carrying! I'd add a little (old) blood around the heads for a more gruesome look, they look so clean now although they've been cut off. Or are they meant to be the helmets only? Still a great miniature though, truly an eyecatcher.
Porphyrius: Tight paintjob, some very sharp lining on that vehicle. I might have overlooked in the WIP thread, but is there a reason you didn't include a gunner on the back? Cool base btw, I love that skeleton combined with the overall.
Lipsdapips: I don't know what to say, I just like your work, no crits!
Feltmonkey: The face looks like a combination of neutral/friendly, but that combined with all the scary ornaments and those claws create a Chaotic Warrior not to mess with! Indeed, HR Giger does come to mind when I look at this.
Paradigm: A colourful bunch of girls! I like their hair, like they're from Jem And The Holograms.
Chris56: As a comic book fan I just had to vote for this. Cool work all around. Pyro is my favorite.
Possumcraft: Sweet skull painting on the helmet. Also digging the firing grappling hook, go Bionic Commando! The insignia on the shoulder pad looks a bit too shiny compared to the rest of the model. Nonetheless awesome work though,

My Skaven Assassin: forgot to highlight the skin and the base stone. Still, I'm satisfied about his converted pose.

Thanks Tim! I left the gunners off the back because I plan to use the bits to convert them into more Players for my Troupes. I've got 2 Troupe boxes and 6 4th edition metal players, so with the 3 extras from the back I should be able to make 4 Troupes of 5 and 1 Troupe Master.

I'm also really pleased with the base, I wish I knew where it came from. I got a selection of resin bases in a trade about 10 years back and this was among them.

This was a strange month. It seemed almost all the entrants had some doubts about their models, but there's loads of great stuff. I've got an hour or so spare now, so I'll post comments on everything. It goes without saying though - great work everyone, and thanks so much to Paradigm for organising it again.

Nevelon - Branching out from the marines, and with some nice models. I really like the wooden shield. The wood grain has come out very well.

Vejut - More animal adventurers, great colours. My favorites are the two larger models. You've really captured the character of some very characterful models.

SirOllox - I've always had a soft spot for blood bowl fans, and these are great. The banner is excellent. I love the goblin with the cymbals. He's clearly going to crash them together just as one of those pesky elves goes up for a catch to put him off.

TheDraconicLord - Brutal Legend is a fantastic game. I really must go back and play it again some time. Pretty much all Double Fine games are great, actually. You've done a really nice job on the paintjob. Lovely highlighting, and some nice detailing on the guitar. As you said in the thread, "DECAPITATIOOOOOOOOON!"

Midget Gems - A chaos ork? How can this be? I suppose in a world where orks also fly WW1 biplanes, sing christmas carols, and are Indiana Jones, it's not that far fetched. Cracking work on the wings in particular.

straken619 - That's a very striking model. The face is good, and the way you've done the black clothes is excellent.

Marine_With_Heart - My favorite entry this month. Genuinely disturbing, nightmarish conversions, and a nice gritty paintjob. They resemble very closely what my idea of chaos cultists should look like, and look as if they've walked out of the pages of the old Realms of Chaos books, or possibly 2000AD. Fantastic job!

ZergSmasher - Well done on painting all four assassins in one month! They look great. Red and green are excellent choices of spot colour.

ZoBo - Lovely work on the banner. You do those yellow and red squiggly lines so well, also.

Jadenim - Nice neat tabletop stuff. You might have run onto a similar problem to what Vejut had last month with camoflague, in that they're kind of camoflagued against their bases. Good stuff though, and the blue is a nice spot colour to add interest.

keezus - Sinister stuff. I like the green OSL coming from beneath. How would you have based it? Does he fly?

Suzuteo - Nice contrast between the electric blue and the rusty brown. Nice tabletop stuff. A bit of black lininf and edge highlighting and you'd have something that really pops.

craggy - Good neat work and a coherent-looking squad.

Porphyrius - Good stuff, neatly edge-highlighted. The base is terrific.

lipsdapips - Really solid, super neat, very well edge-highlighted work. The little patches of text on the armour are great.

Tim121RVC - Good colour choices on a really cool model. All it really needs is a bit more shading, just to add the illusion of depth to a couple of areas and to boost the contrast. Nice work though.

AUGmaniac - Good stuff, another coherent squad. I like the gritty, grubby look you've given them.

Kustomer D - A striking model and an eyecatching paintjob. Is there some sort of filter on the photos making them look a bit grainy? I really like how you've done the blue glowing areas on the guns.

Power Elephant - Jesus. The Kingdom Death stuff is already pretty gross, and you've added gore trails. Truly grim. Nice job.

Paradigm - A really cool Necromunda gang. I keep seeing super-clean paintjobs of Necromunda gangs, but yours makes much more sense to me. They live in an underhive - they'd be grubby! I like how you've kept the colourfulness of them as well.

ChaosDad - Really nice. The touches of gold really make the mini stand out, and the base is just amazing!

SmallChanges - A nice tabletop squad. The red could do with some highlights, but great work on the blue lenses.

Chris56 - Lovely colourful work on these mutants. Magneto's cloak is spectacular.

Possumcraft - Very nice work. The highlighting on the red is just gorgeous.

Modock - Great blends, lovely painting. It's always a treat to see your Infinity stuff.

Thanks to everyone who has voted or commented on my entry. Cheers to Elbows and Creeeed for the nods, and Tim 121RVC you've got a good point about the face. That enigmatic expression was one of the things that drew me to the miniature when I bought it. That and the fact that if memory serves it was half price. I've worked out what the model is and who makes it now - it's from a company called Prodos Games. Here she is on their webstore -

http://shop.prodosgames.com/space-crusade/256-nyx.html

Unfortunately they seem to be one of those companies that have a lot of inappropriately dressed female characters. This one is at least properly armoured. There are other ones who seem convinced that no-one would be able to shoot them anywhere in the area from just above the knee to just below the nipples, so there's no need to wear armour on that part of their body. The important parts to protect are the shoulders and shins, it seems.

This ended up taking longer than an hour, although I did pause to eat my dinner and watch Thor Ragnarok halfway through writing the post. I think I better try to decide what I'm going to paint for next month's challenge this weekend.

@Feltmonkey: Thanks Mate, it's by far non of my best painted models. I did some more work in her with some weathering and she looks so much better now.
No filter used, just bad lighting and something I can't explain about the pic-quality. It always looks good in my PC nur after sending them they look this way.

Some excellent work this month, and a really varied set of entries which is always nice to see!

Thanks to everyone who had kind words for my Escher gang! Somehow they're (currently) in the lead which is a first for me... Not to jinx it, but it's awesome to be in with a shot at the top spot; these minis were something of a departure from my normal style and a bit of an experiment, it seems to have paid off!

Went to try and get the months for you and it seems I've confused some of your joint 3rds with 2nds.....opps.

You came 3rd in April 15, March 16, October 16, March 17, yes sadly not won yet but definitely deserve too

Thanks for the comment Felt and Modock, I'm strugglign with time these last few weeks (and right now) so just happy to get an entry in at all.

Don't forget dressing up as many pop culture references, Orks like nothing better than to watch TV after a good days fighting.

I voted for quite a few people however my daughter has since drawn on/put in the bin/eaten that scrap of paper so I can't remember who it was. I will say well done to everyone and congrats on another successful month

Blimey, that was a close finish! Just 6 votes across the podium entries!

In third place, ZoBo's Ork banner bearer, calling forth the destructive enemies of the WAAAAAGH!

In joint second place, Marine_With_Heart's grimy Chaos Cultists:

and Feltmonkey's superb Geiger-esque chaos warrior:

Scraping a win by just 2 votes, Paradigm's Escher gang (I'm not sure what's weirder, referring to myself in the 3rd person or that I actually won! )

Thanks and congratulations to everyone who took part, see you next month for the innevitably unique results of Three Colour Maximum, which is already producing some highly creative entries!

And also thanks again to everyone who voted for my entry and got it to the top spot. For the last 3 years now these challenges have been a constant source of inspiration to push myself, their podiums so often filled by painters I aspire to one day be as talented and skilled as. To have made it to a first place spot, even by something of a fluke, is truly humbling after that long collating the hundreds of incredible entries we've had thus far!

7 votes is better than I usually do, so I must have done something right. Maybe I'll make the podium one day (in an alternate reality maybe...). It's just so hard to stand out when there are so many good painters in here!

Great work everyone! I'm really pleased that Para finished in top spot, and Marine with heart and Zobo's entries also really deserved their high placings. I'm sort of surprised mine did so well, as for me it's a mix of bits that worked and bits that didn't. I think I'm comparing it to what I intended and seeing the mistakes, wheras in fact the mistakes turned out interesting. That's quite often the way with any art form.

Thanks again for the votes and the feedback.

Some great minis here!
I have question though: how is the contest theme supposes to be interpreted. I struggle to see how some entries fit the theme of 'Agents of Chaos', so is the theme just a starting point rather than a restriction?

It can be interpreted however you like, whether that's entirely literal or a little more abstract. For example, the Cultists are a fairly literal interpretation, they are actual agents of the forces of Chaos. Meanwhile, the Assault Marines entry represent the theme because their role is to get in among the enemy ranks, sow chaos by disrupting units, flanking positions harassing communications ect. Likewise, the Ork entry is just a chaotic, disruptive force, so on and so forth.

Ultimately, it's something you to take into account when voting; if there's a really nicely painted entry that you don't think fits the theme, then you may not want to vote for it. Equally, if there's a less technically stunning one that evokes the theme better, they tend to pick up more votes.

It's very rare that I disallow an entry on thematic grounds, usually I leave it up to people to interpret however they like and the proof of the pudding is in the eating, or in this case, the voting.
