Hey everyone hope you are having a good day/evening

I have recently been thinking about starting a Primaris army of either Imperial Fists or Raven Guard, however I am puzzled on where to start. I know Dark Imperium is probably a good idea but at the same time I am not sure what to get along with that plus I was possibly thinking of going down more of an aggressors army idea instead.

Any help/suggestions are appreciated and if possible any list ideas for around 1500 (Could be more or less) I would be greatly thankful for.

Cheers

Proxy normal marines and test it out. Use terminators as aggressors, that is all they’re good for anyway

From what I've heard you want a mix pure numarines isn't very good.

Dark Imperium is a great starting point!

From there, I'd pick up a box of scouts to fill out a Battalion, and because they are one of the best troop choices Marines have. They aren't Primaris, but I justify it in my own Primaris army as they would still have scouts!

Next I'd get 5 more Hellblasters (eBay is your friend) as they are probably the strongest Primaris unit.

I'd also pick up an Aggressor squad if you're going Raven Guard, as you can drop it on top of your opponent and shoot twice first turn, which will annihilate screen units like Guardsmen and Cultists.

Then I'd also get some Plasma Inceptors. This is a super underrated unit in my opinion, that has the ability to delete more than their points in one turn dropped out of nowhere!

From all this you would have your first 1000 points (with a few models spare), a Battalion for CP, and fairly diverse and fun force that should win some games in a casual setting.

Thanks for that.
Seems like a fun idea to use.

One idea I was playing with is getting dark imperium and know no fear. Then I can possibly sell the death guard on Ebay or to someone at my club.

Then use the spare cash to get some other stuff such as more inceptors, aggressors or other things.

Also this is more of a fluffy casual army idea as I have no real interest in comp play but I do like for my armies to have some strategy and win potential to them

Sure, you could do that!

Know No Fear would get you that second Hellblaster squad. You'd also get an Intercessor squad, so you could hold off on the Scouts (you probably want some eventually though!). The extra Captain is a bit redundant, but you might get some use from more Bolter Inceptors. They aren't great, but can do work against the right targets.

My plan is to maybe get 2 boxes of inceptors, so then I have a squad of 6 bolters and then a squad of 6 plasma.

This will give me quite a mobile force and a hard hitting potential

Nice! I love Inceptors so this is what I plan too! Or split one up to fill an Outrider.

A squad of 3 Plasma Inceptors on average kills a Daemon Prince in one round of shooting, for about the same points (assuming wings on the DP). They do it from Deep Strike. I think they're really good!

Yeah, add in Raven guard chapter tactics and deep strike them over 12 inch's away and you have got hard to hit, anti-tank/infantry, hit and run experts.

I would keep in mind if you want to do pure or almost pure Primaris Marines that the new Deathwatch codex is coming out soon. I was planning on expanding my 1000 point Militarum Tempestus with Raven Guard Primaris, but after I saw all the new Deathwatch stuff, that’s what I’m gonna do now. The Deathwatch really treat the Primaris right this edition.

If the truth can destroy it, then it deserves to be destroyed.

They have some really interesting rules! I'm not certain how viable they are until we get full points costs though.

Yeah deathwatch do look very interesting however I am not such a fan of their aesthetic and I am mainly looking to make my own chapter using Raven guard rules

Well, nothing is stopping your custom chapter from using Deathwatch rules. But Raven Guard rules are solid too.

Death Watch really seems to be the Primaris army right now...but it will depend on points...

Depends what you want to do really!

I think Dark Angels with Hellblasters and Plasma Inceptors is pretty solid, and anything with Raven Guard is great.

Dark Imperium is a great start all you need is more Hellblasters and Inceptors. then add Razorbacks and scouts (both sniper & assault)

castle a squad of heavy plasma w a capt, it, and ancient is overcharge fun.

I made a very budget Primaris army when they came out. A friend and I each bought the Dark Imperium set (Store special, plus 20% off discount card) , and I traded him Death Guard Models for Primaris. I then traded the second Gravis Captain, Ancient, and Lt.'s for another 2 Intercessor Squads. Then I ebayed for more HellBlasters.

I added all this to a 3rd party Guiliman, Contemptor Dreadnought, Imperial Space Marine, Storm Talon, and kitbashed Rapier crew I had laying around.

For under $200 I ended up with a 3500 point list.

Wow that is amazing. At this point I don't really have a budget but I am aiming for under £150 or even less. I have found 3rd party stores are my best friend when it comes to getting this stuff and hopefully I can find someone at my local club or even a friend who may want the death guard. If not I can always add it to my current list
