So a lot of us model, build and paint. We love our games, but are they any Model Railroaders out there? Got any layouts you'd be willing to share? Future plans, etc?
My son turned 6 and is big into trains. I noticed my local Hobbytown had a pile of E-Z link tracks in the discount bin (brand new) for about 20% what they'd normally sell for. I ended up buying about 40 feet of track and bridges and ebaying a cheap train set with 10 more feet of track.
Now my 8x4 Warhammer terrain and table pulls double duty and gets pushed together with a 4x4 card table to make a pretty decent train set.

That is cool, let me tell you it's a great hobby. My father did almost exactly the same thing with me when I was about that age.
But the detail work is amazing. Check out Lance Mindheim's works.
I'm not a railroader myself, as I don't have the time or money to really get into it, but I find them fascinating, so I'll definitely be watching this thread.

It runs around his and his neighbours' houses. It's also a ride-on. He is a boilermaker by trade and works on/helps restore full scale steam engines/locos in his spare time as well.
He also has HO, O and N gauge layouts but I don't have any pics of them.
I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

My son is about to turn 5 and is so much into trains he watches an endless loop of trains passing by on YouTube.
He's getting a bit tired of his thomas tracks so my cunning plan is to use this as a gateway drug to mini wargames. I'm thinking a small set on a big-ish scale for Christmas and see where we go from there.

There's a fantastic miniature railway near my parents house that looks similar in scale to this. Been running for years - my parents took my brother and I as children 30+ years ago, and now we go with my children. Has a couple of miles of track, multiple stations, bridges, a tunnel... All run by volunteers who just use the ticket fees to keep it running. I love it.

Incredible! That is really amazing. I know a number of people working on the restoration of 2929 in Albuquerque, NM.
I was never a proper model railroader - as a child I had a Hornby O-gauge tinplate clockwork train set - it's in my parent's loft and must be worth a fortune these days - and before that a decent collection of BRIO wooden trains and track.

I think that a lot of people come to it later in life, when they're out of debt and well established. When I was a kid, my father and I had a nice 12' X 8' layout in our basement. It was pretty simple with a single mountain tunnel, and two different styles of bridge. Two tracks, and the ability to run two separate engines at once. I really miss that little table.

I used to play with Brio too! My parents are holding onto it for me to eventually pass on to my children (if I ever have any that is).

The Grotsnik Corp Bump Feelerer 9,000. It only looks like several bricks crudely gaffer taped to a cricket bat.

My dad's been doing O-Gauge trains for decades now, recently I've started building a Class 08 shunter. Slow progress as this is far beyond anything I've built in 40k. This is a working brass kit with electronics, and the instructions are very limited. It's a very enjoyable hobby, and while I'm not as into trains as he is, you really have to admire the craftsmanship that goes into some of those models.

You really do. Many of these sets are multi-generational. The club I belong to has been working on their layout since 1986. They keep it in the attic of a museum in my local town, it's quite impressive. Next meeting, I will take some photos to share.

Typo, I meant 12 X 8.

He's a member of several local miniature railway mobs, as well as the local full scale steam group (the gate is a 5 minute drive from his house, but the private rail line they use is a 5 minute walk from it. It's a short run of track on an old mine railway. Richmond Vale, NSW).
When he was younger, he was one of the boilermakers who helped restore a couple of our vintage 38 class locos.
But outside of that, he travels around to other states and areas and they all play trains together.

That is really the life man. No worries, not politics. Just having your hobby and all the time in the world to burn on it.
