Subject: To de-chaosify a defiler

Warplord Titan Princeps of Tzeentch

So, I have a thousand-sons army with a pre-heresy theme accompanied by "ghosts" (demons of tzeentch that look like ghosts), a thrallband called "Ghosts of Prospero" (if anyone cares, I call it the seventh thrallband under the 5th sect of the cult of time)
And as a pre-heresy theme, my rubrics are MK3s (and sorcerers are pimped-up ones), my scarabs are tartaros, helbrutes are castellax-achea, etc.
Now, I with to add a defiler to my lines, however I struggle to see how to build one that looks like heresy-era TS style (or HH era mechanicum, also works), rather than "modern" TS.
I thought about starting with the dunecrawler, but I don't really see how I fit on a battlecannon, and make it apperant he has melee prowess while keeping him non-chaos in appearance.

Interesting question. AFAIK, Daemon engines such as the Defiler simply didn't exist pre-HH? Therefore you need something which believably counts-as a Defiler (in size, weapons, etc) without looking too much like one.
Yes, you could build something from scratch, but my initial thought is to imagine that the classic Defiler is a later corruption of some earlier marine 'walking tank' under development at the time of the HH. So imagine a retro non-chaotic Defiler - still based on the same 6-legged chassis but without any chaos icons or spikes or demonic bits etc. So I'd take a standard Defiler kit and:
- replace the spiky feet with something closer to HH-era dreadnought feet
- replace the leg armour (or at least file/sand it down to plain spike-less armour plates), again aiming for the HH-era dreadnought look
- similarly, make the claw arms look more like the HH-era dreadnought equivalent
- build a brand-new turret - perhaps a lower battle cannon turret (even a Leman Russ turret?) with a smaller turret on top for the secondary weapon?

I've seen such a conversion and it looks great, but is a lot smaller than a defiler.

After some Google work 8 found it. Seems a bit top heavy, and drastically smaller than the defiler.
Good concept though.

Dust Tactics has some really great walking tanks. Could be a solid base to 30k up.

Yep, while probably a good bit larger than the actual Defiler, when I considered doing one - I planned on using the legs from the Dust Axis heavy walker. Now they're too expensive to find, but they came with a perfect set of non-Chaos legs. You'd need to build/design the top half though.

Maybe you can put it on a big base or add banners and stuff?

What about going the other way and using an Onager cab on defiler legs? You could add the heavy guns as a tail like section looping over the top of the cab like the ghost in the shell SAC spider tank.
I've used the defiler chassis with Onager bits for a cargo transport, but I think with the defiler legs as well it should work. Might need to trim off a few of the spikes though.

A hybrid defiler/onager MIGHT work.
Anyone knows if onager legs fit into the defiler leg slots?
Also that dust thingy also looks great, but unless someone knows how to aquire some in a sane price, I'd give it a pass.
I can get GW superheavies for cheaper than this.
