Bigben, Games Workshop and Eko Software today revealed the name of the game based on the famous Warhammer license: Warhammer: Chaosbane. This adaptation of the franchise will be the first Action-RPG to take place in the Warhammer Fantasy world.
The development of the title is being done by Eko Software, a French studio who has demonstrated great skill in the hack’n slash genre with How to Survive 1 and 2, a series which captivated millions of players.
In Warhammer: Chaosbane, the player will be plunged into the middle of Old World history as they embody a human, a high elf, a wood elf, or a dwarf and discover several iconic locations such as the cursed city of Praag, or Nuln, the old capital of the Empire.
In order to celebrate this announcement, Bigben has also released the first screenshots for Warhammer: Chaosbane that you can view below!

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
"the play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king,
Age of Sigmar is both very new in terms of computer games (big things like TW Warhammer were likely already in the works when Sigmar was just coming out); and also not a franchise tht I think caught the imagination of developers the same way as the old world did.
It might also be that GW wants the old world to live on a little longer in video games for a while. Considering the campaign in Warhammer TW they might even be using it as a subtle "all the old world computer games end the world to lead into sequels set in sigmar". Thus casually showing the end of the world and the birth of the new one (I fully expect TW Warhammer to do this at the very least)
Colour me interested if they can make a solid hack and slash game! Colour me super impressed if it beats Diablo 2 (currently I'd say Grim Dawn is about the best singleplayer)
Got sent some footage off the developers, starts at 03:20:

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Yeah, I'm still hoping GW will cave and bring back the Old World in some way. Or at least close order combat. I miss big blocks. And vision cones. And flank charges.

I can't see AoS going back to rank and file. Even in the future when its fanbase is larger I can't see it happening.
What I can see potentaily happening is if GW brings back Warmaster or the AoS equivalent. That would bring back rank and file in a way that I think represents it far better than AoS scale games can. Because with Warmaster you can have blocks of infantry that look like proper blocks; you can have 100 warriors and then a huge dragon breathing fire down on them. It's a scale that just works better for representing larger battles.
That said AoS has a lot of maturing to do and tidying up of its factions long before I think Warmaster can come on the scene so I think we are looking at 5-10 years at least before we can think it might happen.
