Looks like FFG is releasing a new version, reskinned to their Terrinoth IP. It's a great game and I was always sad that the old Warhammer Quest died to the FFG/GW license cancellation before getting any expansions. This will be a must buy for me.

Didn't they run a kickstarter to a rethemed version of the game called Awful Fantasy or something like that? Whatever happened to that?

I really enjoyed Warhammer Quest Card game. Even got the Slayer and witch hunter expansions before it fizzled out. Its good though they are using their own IP, surprised they didn't just slap star wars on it.

Hope for a Early Gencon Release as I will buy it then for sure.

Loved WHQ:ACG, so I'm all over this. I wish Terrinoth resonated more with me, but it lacks both the over the top nature of Warhammer Fantasy and the original features of an actually developed setting.

IIRC that was a group of individuals that actually created the Warhammer Adventure card game, but done outside the purview of FFG corporate. My guess would be that FFG hit them with a CnD pretty quickly.

According to BGG, they are working on this one too. Apparently, the theme of the other game was just not resonating and the Kickstarter failed the old fashioned way - disinterest.

Yeah... turns out that the "Awful Fantasy" setting just didn't appeal to the player base. Everyone wanted "standard Fantasy", i.e. Warhammer. Terrinoth is basically standard high fantasy with a few twists. I expect this game to sell well.

There was some backlash over the setting which lead to a lot of people either dropping their pledge, or not pledging at all. It was pretty much just full of puerile humor that had no chance of being amusing past one game. It didn't help that the art was fairly average either. The thing would have been an embarrassment to own, certainly not something I'd have wanted to play with other adults anyway.

It's not the only odd decision the Sadler brothers have made either. They still adamantly defend their decision to go with the Awful Fantasy setting despite the fact that it killed their attempt to get this game off the ground on their own. I'm also constantly baffled by their choices for kickstarter bonuses on their successful games. The recently successful recent Brook City, for instance, had a lot of weird ones like Sandra Bullock from Ms Congeniality, Guy Fieri, and I think Ben Stiller from Zoolander rather than characters from 70s and 80s cop movies, which would have made way more sense given the setting and probably would have generated more interest.

Not sure why it's so odd that we defend the decision to work with our high school buddies who run a parody Twitter account. We make games for fun. It's literally supposed to be awful humor, hence the name. It's self-aware awfulness all around, but I can understand some people have strong preferences against it. Not all humor is universal, but we still love working with our friends and appreciate their wit.

As far as Brook City is concerned, Adam and I had nothing to do with the references. We just designed the game; it's the publisher's choice who they include in the game. We aren't in charge of everything. We just enjoy designing games that are fun to play.

Sorry if this all comes across as "odd." But we dedicate a good portion of free time making games while juggling our full-time jobs and families. We don't really present ourselves as prodigies or innovators...just a couple of dorks making (hopefully) fun games.

And let's get real, Guy Fieri is a freaking hero.

Not at all. Adam and I got the game handed back to us and we shopped it around to several interested publishers. We decided to work with our buddies from high school (in addition to other settings we had planned for the game), but before that panned out FFG decided they did want to move forward with this one and we re-signed it.

We are on great terms with FFG and they legally couldn't hit us with a CnD. We are the original designers and can do whatever we want with it. But we're very happy to work with FFG, because we have a great relationship. Hope that helps clear it up!
