Can House Malinax stand in as loyalist knights?
No, burn the heretics!
Sure, whatever, as long as you have the right weapons on there, I'm in...
Why wouldn't they be?
Long live house Griffith of the two thin coats!

Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

With this weekend's release of knights I will be getting my grubby little fingers on some giant robots to field with any number of my armies...

My two main armies are my 30k/40k Alpha Legion force and my Deathwatch/Grey Knights/Inquisition soup... All of those permutations can field knights, and I'm looking for a way to have the knights be visually adaptable to all of these forces...

Enter House Malinax. While they are clearly traitors and would not align with loyalist forces, they are also visualy relatively neutral, their tan livery with their emblematic scorpion doesn't scream "chaos", and at the same time doesn't really scream "for the glory of the god emperor!"...

So, if I ever find myself across from you on a gaming table with my Grey Knights supported by my Malinax Paladin, would that fly or would you stomp out of the store in a blind rage?

Or anything in between, really...

Alternate idea: House Malinax' homeworld turned to Chaos back during the Heresy, but a number of scions managed to flee the planet with their armours and after the dust settled they got a new planet but were placed under the supervision of the proto-Inquisition of the era. Today knights marching under the scorpion banner and claiming to be "the real House Malinax" march for the Inquisition and for the Alpha Legion, and they get really quite vicious if they run into the "traitors" in the same colours on the other side.

(Disclaimer: This is entirely "an explanation that happens to fit the facts" and has only a technical relationship with "canon". That said "the loyalist Malinax cadet branch that works for the Inquisition is heavily classified" is a pretty easy handwave for why we haven't heard of them before.)

Doubtful many even know that house. Alternatively adjust colur scheme a bit and have it as custom house

I don't think it's any more chaotic than the Red Scorpions, and they're loyalists. I would not have a problem with it.

I don’t think anyone but the fluffiest of fluff bunnies would mind, and those are the type of people who’d find something to be pedantic about anyways.

Might get a raised eyebrow at most if they are laden in chaos symbols and eyes of Horus, but it’s still better than grey Marines run as fotm!

Besides, anyone who doesn’t want to play with stompy robots isn’t worth playing with anyways.

I knew they were bloody Heretics! I approve wholeheartedly.

@OP, as your man above showed they are pretty neutral - which is even more thematic for Alpha Legion.

I wonder if an AL aligned knight house has infiltrated another?

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

I would be okay with this.

I consider myself the fluffiest of fluff-bunnies, but the idea that loyalists march under the banner of House Malinax in 40k isn't too beyond me. It could have even been a regular scion who escaped the Homeworld as it fell to Chaos and re-founded the house on another loyalist Knight World or the like, starting as a Freeblade in 30k and eventually having his House re-established.

The House could still be called House Malinax, but it could be cool to call it Malinax-Helsturm or whatever the name of that one refounding scion was, in recognition of his heroism in defying the fall of his homeworld.

1) if its your own brewed house then no one will really care
2) you can just say its an alpha legion operative and call it a day.

only the most beard of beards from ether side would actually care.

It's fluff, you can do literally whatever you want. There are no rules.

Maybe i'll run a knight with my Tyranids in fluffy games. Questor SKREE, a knight was overrun by Hormagants and somehow they're mucking about inside causing the knight to move and shoot by accident. Just as fluffy as anything else and is 100% consistent with my view of the fluff.

The Dark Angels have literally the exact same backstory AnomanderRake proposed, so you’re fine.

In early 7th edition it was techically legal to have grey knights allied with chaos and space marine librarians summoned daemons, so your perceived fluff deviation isn’t bad at all.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

The more people you can make storm out, the more games you technically win.

2k poorly optimized Necrons.
1k poorly assembled Sisters.

Easier solution.
Take an obviously loyal house.
When you use alpha legion, it's not actually that house, but alpha mayham.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Don't know a thing about Houses but if the house is neutral you could just sight different pilot names while you use it in different armies. A follow up idea would be to have house heraldry on the IK itself but banners, flags etc. specifically for pilot heraldry. Would give you a bit more justification when playing it in ether side by just changing out personal pilot Heraldry so it fits the fight and narrative you are looking for.

That is actually one way to go... but I just love the scorpion heraldry, so I prefer to find an explanation for house Malinax in a loyal setting...

That is actually going even deeper into the fluff than I was intending to do, but does make sense...

Anyhow, I have ordered the House Malinax transfer sheet from Forge World. I have discoreved in the last few months the magic that is Microsol/set, and so I'm not even hesitating about depending on transfers for heraldry...

I’m still on the fence myself about what Household to do, Malinax or Taranis. I want to do Dark Mechanicum in 30k, so Xana and Malinax have always had my attention. But if I do Mars and Taranis I could easily find reasons for them to be Loyalist or Traitor during the Heresy.

But a loyalist splinter group of Xana and Malinax could still be around in 40k. Or they could just be Dark Mechanicum using 40k rules.

I just like the color scheme and heraldry of Xana and Malinax. The fluff could easily justify their existence either way
