Subject: My forgeworld resin is bendy!?!? What should I do? (customer service?)

Last night when I got in from work, my forgeworld order had arrived.
Opened it up, but didn't look too closely, beyond sticking my marine's (valthex) feet to his base.
But it looks like a bunch of the other parts (as far as I can tell, the main body is fine) are really, really rubbery. Is there a way of fixing that, or am I screwed?
If I try and contact FW, will they get snippy about me taking it out of the package? Also, I had another item in the order, will they want that back?
Examples below of just what a state my parts are in. After all that bending, they had returned to normal before I had finished typing this.

Customer Service, send a picture of the part.
Fw Service is really good and they should send you a replacement.

GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"

I've never had an issue with FW customer service complaining about things being out of packaging as you'll struggle to take clear pictures of defects through packaging.
Best advice I can give is take clear pictures and explain in detail the issues. They are usually good at resolving the issue usually with new parts.

Okay, sounds good!
Because this was last chance to buy, what do you reckon they will do about it?
Thanks for the help!

Just email them and make sure you keep your proof of purchase, as they'll probably ask for it. I'd imagine they'll probably send you a replacement.
Honeslty I've never seen that before, I've experienced some dodgy FW stuff like warpage, but not resin so soft it's like rubber.

Looks like they messed up the resin mix. Even if it was LCTB they should have a replacement kicking around, or be able to cast up the parts.

If it was last chance, they might not be able to replace it, in such cases thier common response is to coupon you for the model's value (while you keep the damaged one)
One thing about GW in general, costumer support is on point. You get replacement refunds, etc with practically no questions asked, and often send entire extra models over a single flawed part.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now. |

I second the others - contact FW customer service and describe the issue you've got. Resin can have some flex to it, but it shouldn't be "really bendy" at least not FW resin. It might be that the mix has gone wrong so contact them and see what they say.
If possible a video to show what you've got would be of great help to them and in showing your situation. Otherwise photos and details as much as you can give them (it doesn't just help prove your case, it also helps them identify the flaw and thus the likely cause of the problem and then hopefully be able to avoid/check for it in the future) Automatically Appended Next Post: BoomWolf wrote:

Yep in the days of metal models they used to just cast up the broken part(s) and send them; today because most of the kits are plastic its actually cheaper for them just to send an entire replacement (ergo one full sprue) than it is for them to take extra time to snip out the parts from a whole sprue and then have to throw the rest of the sprue away.

The ratio between the resin and the hardener is off. It unlikely that the parts will get any stiffer than they are now.
On the bright side, the parts will still be usable even if you can get replacements. The size of the parts will work to your advantage. The smaller the part the less torque you'll be able to apply to see the flexibility. It will probably be equivalent to heroclix or Reaper's Bones material.
Forgeworld's Customer Service is top notch, their quality control sucks balls.

Id ask a chemistry teacher to see if you can add something to harden the resin with out destroying the details. I'm assuming as a layman that soft equals absorbable. Maybe there's a way. Might be a long shot.

Got in touch with them - they were great, but no replacement Valthex
Can't complain too much about free toy monies, tho!

That's interesting. Out of fear of damaging the parts, I've not experimented too much with them, but I can tell they're unusually pliant. How well does paint adhere to (and stay on) those other minis? I might have a crack at salvaging one of the arms and the conversion beamer.

Now there's an interesting suggestion. Might have a probe amongst my teacher friends, though chemistry might as well be some arcane black magic as far as my knowledge will take me.
For reference, anyone know what I ought to call FW resin when talking to a chemicals person?
(Also if you yourself are, or know, one of these mages of the chemical arts, it would be rad sick of you to send them this way!)

I was thinking if anyone in the world might know and be interested in the subject matter would be Wetta workshops with Adam Savage from myth busters. Guy's an avid modeler. Whetta workshop or whatever they're called may respond via email or other social media.

As further demonstrated by the models cant come with an info sheet that basically says "you call them defects, we call them a normal part of the casting process, quit whining".

You'd probably have a better chance of getting a response from someone at tested over twitter or I think they have a forum too than from someone at weta. I'm not particularly knowledgeable when it comes to resin but it's likely that the only way to harden it once set is to freeze it which would only be temporary and may damage it. Depending on the part pinning it may work, with the arm you should be able to use a pin vise to drill down the length of the arm and insert wire. It wouldn't make the resin any tougher but it should still make it less likely to bend. The paint should stick fine but any flex is likely to crack or otherwise disturb the paint.

Any chemistry majors in the house?
And I believe you're right Tested might be the way to go.. via social media. Send in some pics. Hopefully they'll get back to you.
Perhaps freezing and than recasting. Considering how valuable the parts are to you it might be your only option.
Perhaps a hard lacquer finish or varnish. But I'm stretching for ideas here.
