Are the Swords or the Hammers better for Liberators? Or does it even matter? Swords have the 3+ hit and 4+ wound, while Hammers have the 4+ hit and 3+ wound. In a vacuum that’s mathematically the same expected amount of damage.

Always go for better to hit, when you have the choice. Mathematically it is a better option when you consider what happens to your chances if you miss more hits then the mathematical average.

So better an easier first roll then an easier second roll.

Statistically it doesn't matter, if you add buffs however the combo pulls ahead where you improve the worse roll.
For example hammers profit more from Lord Celestant's +1 to hit (hammers get.44 wounds per attack, swords get.41), swords profit more from Evocator's reroll wounds (here swords get .5 wounds to hammers .44).
So pick weapons according to available buffs or vice versa.

Yeah, running buffs thru the calculator and you are quite correct, and since Liberators have a built in conditional hit bonus on higher wound models, the hammers are probably better, especially since the unit is going to often be used as a character hunter.

I didn't play a lot yet, but so far i tend to let my sequitors do the work and use the liberators as more of a sacrifice, diversion or off on a far objective.
Still i think in most cases hammers are better, as you mentionend lay low the tyrants is the inherent buff that tips the scale. I actually didn't think on that so far and think i missed it in a game today

I’m using them in a Guardians of Alarielle Sylvaneth army so I don’t really have an option for Sequitors, just two units of ten Liberators and a unit of five Judicators alongside their Castellant. Running one unit of Liberators with shields, and one with dual hammers. I Am splurging some ally points to get a banner so I can teleport the unit of dual hammers forward to be able to hit backline characters and support.
