As a kid playing 2nd edition 40k, I collected all sorts of bits and bobs (pocket money permitting) and made a mash of a space marine army that was just about playable. Anyway, that all went in a box and got left in a garage for over 20 years. About 9 months ago I had to clean out the old folks garage and found it all. A little treasure trove of nostalgia. So I went about getting it all ready to sell when I found out 8th edition was literally just coming out. So I did the research and got the bug again.

Now Rogue Trader ear stuff is like Marmite to people. You love it or hate it. Luckily I found a forum with people who like the old stuff, for advice and the odd painting tip and started a blog there to keep a tad of pace and direction to the project. I wanted a pure Rogue Trader army set out and playable to 8th Edition, that although not a tourney smash list, could hold it own and be fun to play. Most of all though, enjoyable and intriguing to look at on the table. Someone said on on another forum, R.T marines are like the reality, the real image of the troops where as the newer heroic models are like the propaganda, recruitment poster boys.

I'm not a great painter but I think I can do a reasonable table top standard. So here are a few highlights of the project log to maybe inspire, intrigue and pique some nostalgia in some of you long timers out there. Oh and maybe show some of the new kids on the block where this game began, the troops that forged the empire way before Primaris romper suits were stomping about

This will be image heavy and sadly there are not manual options on the forum to resize the images :(

So, we start off with tanks. I had a few but acquired a few more on Ebay. They all needed stripping, rebuilding and repairing. Bits were missing that needed covering over, creative damage painting/rust or if skills/materials permitted, remaking, such as grab rails and exhausts. I also magnetised where I could weapons for swaps and aerials for ease of storage and those that had these kits all know the sadness of those snapped grab rails and aerials. In the end I have 4 Rhinos, 1 Predator and 2 Landraiders.

I'll show the Rhino chassis builds first, then the Landraiders. I wanted the Rhinos to be functional a possible so I got my hands on some Tarantula Guns from space crusade, magnetised them and the dorsal doors so I can play 3 of the Rhinos as Razordbacks if needed.

I didn't want all 4 Rhinos looking the same, so, I made an Engineering variant, purely for aesthetics and army character. It is on paper just a Rhino.

I like the look of the Sisters of Battle Repressor. I thought it would make a good Apothicarium/ambulance for the wounded. Again all just for army character and interest.

So, now with 4 transports and a Pred, I needed some big stuff. So, two Landraiders. One is an Achilles with a magnetised top and weapons to replace and play it as a Godhammer pattern. The other IS a Godhammer but can replace the weapons to be a Prometheus. The quad bolters, meh, I think they look a bit too chunky for the look of the tank. I will in time get/make some thing else more R.T looking.

Here they all are. In full technicolour glory.

Thank you for your comments Need some troops now...

RT plastic marines. They have some odd poses so I changed them up a little.I wanted the colour and look of them and the bases to pay homage to the cover illustration of the RT rule book.

Tactical squad 2 - I ran out of backpacks for the flamer so I made one up out of a Squat one i think? Works well as a flamer fuel tank. They can be split into 2x5 One with helmets one without.

A 5 man tactical squad - Reposed from the original plastic RT bodies and a few modern touches.

Assault troops to get those hard to reach places. 10 in all and a Lieutenant. (There are a couple of other troops mixed in with that last pic)

A 5 man Sernguard squad. Proxy plasma for combi bolter/plas/

Dev squad 1 with magnetised weapons.

Dev Squad 2

Still got a good bit to go yet, but thats for next time.
