Subject: Space Marine Blanks/Pariahs?
|
 |
Legendary Master of the Chapter
|
Has there been any mention in the fluff or the novels of a Space Marine who was also a blank? Blanks are incredibly valuable resources, yet apparently common enough for every Inquisitor's retinue to have access to one, so shouldn't they occasionally get picked up by Space Marine chapters looking for aspirants?
If so, how would the space marines make use of them? Would they be used as specialized librarians or chaplains? Or would the chapter just kill them outright? Would they have their own position title?
Assuming a space marine blank existed, how would you model or armor the marine to make clear his special abilities as a blank? For a conversion, would you look more to the Culexis or a Sister of Silence for inspiration, or something else entirely?

Probably not. Especially since from what I've read all non-blanks feel a compulsive urge to hate blanks, why would a marine recruiter recruit someone he hated? Maybe if they were specifically looking for them. Sort of like librarians. Then again blanks are only like 1 in 10 billion in humans and even then like 90% of blanks are women. So what few males are found would probably be handed over to the assassinorum upon discovery.

that'd be a fun idea for a varient chapter. a chapter of blanks. Maybe a "companion order" to the Grey Knights?

Because Sisters of Silence already take most of the females who can't become marines anyways so male blanks are the Culexus temple's only reliable source of recruits.

The Exorcists are kinda like that. How they get there is a little different but the end game is the same.

Blanks are incredibly rare so if they aren't killed before the larger government of the Imperium finds them they're going to the Culexus, Sisters (who apparently exist now) or a powerful Inquisitor. For once Space Marines aren't important enough.

The forgeworld Horus Heresy Blackbook Inferno mentions that gene-seed implantation into blanks and pariahs has been attempted several times but has ended in death or horrific mutation each time. In-universe in is theorised that this is due to the inherently psychic nature of gene-seed since all gene-seed is derived from primarchs, who are all derived from the Emperor and thus cannot be blanks.

Humans would be picked up as being blanks long before they got to being recruited by a Space Marine chapter.

Blanks are far, far too valuable to let 90% or more die in the process of becoming a marine. Better to use them on inquisitorial ships, etc., where they just have to exist, rather than survive grueling trials to become a superhuman. Also, they have to catch them when they are in their teens - it is an incredibly small window.

A thought I've just had is that while what I say above is true, it's possible that a more radical Chapter could have a Blank as a member. If they stumbled upon an eligible Blank by chance there's not much anyone around can do to stop them just taking them as an aspirant. Although then they'd need to keep them far away from the Inquisition.

There isn't anything they can do no, but keep in mind, no one actually LIKES having a blank around. and having a toady following around a SM squad "just in case" would proably be seen by all parties as a "criminal waste of assists" a more likely result is the blank would be turned over to an inquistor the space marines where on friendly terms with.

True. You could use them as a 40k incarnation of a Moritat for assassinating psykers but yes any reasonable Chapter would probably ship off any Blanks to people who actually like them.

Blanks would not work on space marines due to the psychic nature of geneseed. (Primarchs were psychically and scientifically created it only makes sense the same was done to create geneseed initially)
Blank Space Marines do exist in the form of the psychically resistant are the custodes.

Custodes are NOT blanks.

I didn't say they were. I implied they were similar.
