How good are the Vallejo washes for painting 40k miniatures. After painting using nothing but base colors for sometime, i decided to start using washes. I am thinking of using Vallejo as there are the easiest brand to get, but after some research a lot of people seem to say that they are difficult to use on miniatures.
Can someone tell me what is the best way to use it on 40k miniatures? Also the Vallejo line seems to sell 2 types of washes, the game color (17ml) and model color (35ml) brands. which it the better one to get?

I haven't used vallejo washes in at least 5 years so keep that in mind. When I got mine they were a pain at times they tended to split and settle really quickly and had to be constanstly shaken during use. So for me it was more a maintanance during use issue than a results issue though I did have coverage problems with some of the washes but it was only a few.
On the paints as far as I remember game colour was a bit more vibrant in its range catering to the gw crowd while miniature colour was a bit earthier and meant for the ww2 type games. (its been a while so I'm happy to be corrected if I've made a mistake here)

Yeah, skip the Vallejo washes and go for Citadel.
There's very little I prioritize one brand over another for, but having used both sorts the Citadel are just better. There's generally a slightly better flow and less opacity to the Citadel ones.
I use a lot of Vallejo and it's generally top notch, but in this specific circumstance the premium you pay for Citadel is probably worth it.

I've only had a couple of big pots of Vallejo black and sepia wash, and they're not the greatest. I'd recommend Army Painter washes - they're easily the best part of the Army Painter range.

As with all other paints, depends entirely on what you're using them for. I swear by Vallejo sepia and smoke inks (moreso on the latter) as the pigment in them is ridiculously strong and nothing in the GW range compares.
I'll use GW washes for just about everything else (Nuln Oil is a godsend), but their brown washes are just water compared to the above.

I've got Vallejo's flesh wash and their green wash.
The flesh wash is great, the green one... not so much.
Definitely go for the Citadel washes.

Seconding this. Their dark gray wash is a miracle, GW's black is too strong a shade even when diluted. The AP dark gray adds shadow without overwhelming the base color and seems to dry with a smoother finish than the patchy look GW's black tends to have.

I have just one vallejo wash and it's not the best out there. I would recommend the Army Painter washes which are VERY similar to GW washes but a lot cheaper
and they come in amazing dropper bottles. I have the whole AP set of washes.
There are plenty video comparison of AP washes to GW washes, you can look up for them to get a better insight to those washes.
I would stay away from AP paints though.

I don't really like the Vallejo washes. The ones I've used have tended to be quite bitty, and if watered down the pigment separates out really badly. They also seem to leave a white residue around the edges of where they've pooled. The black wash is particularly bad for this.
The only one I've used so far that is pretty decent is the light grey.

The vallejo washes I use tend to be very strongly pigmented. If i have to wash a large area i usually apply the black wash to a big brush and dip it in water before applying.
What also annoys me is that the black wash is matte while the black vallejo paint is very glossy

The skin wash is a bit orange - my guys looked a little "Only Way is Essex" at first- but water down and mix with brown it works well. Smokey Ink is a godsend, I find. The Army Painter green tone is a nice one, deep and vibrant
