Hi Craig,

Welcome to Dakka

Hi, Craig! Welcome to Dakka and 40k as a hobby! If you're looking to start out playing Necrons I would suggest that either/both the Forgebane boxed set and the Start Collecting: Necrons box sets are excellent places to start. Forge bane is a little pricier but comes with two armies and a booklet that explains the basic rules and should hopefully get you started playing a little easier. As far as community goes, I would maybe seek out if there are any local gaming stores nearby (I think the GW website might have a resource that lists thier stockists, but this might have been removed) and if you can find one, inquire about the local gaming scene. As for hobby/gaming advice, Dakka has a pretty nice set of subforums for both, and If you feel so inclined I would also encourage you to think about setting up a painting/modeling blog. These can be a great way of seeking out feedback and charting your progress. Hope that helps you out.
Cheers,

Yeah man. Dakka has lots of good people. My advice is take it slow. Look. Read. Watch. Listen. Buy a few things. Paint a bit if you can. And repeat.
