Maybe not need, but would like a new army. I’m looking for simple, fun, easy to use, and preferably no psychic abilities. I gravitate towards elite units, dreadnaughts, monstrous creatures. Looking for good suggestions, minus tanks lists. Armies I like: tyranids, Custodes, grey knights, space wolves, demons, space marines, and maybe tau.

Looking to get on the board fast with a core painted army, and add some cool custom units later. Thank you community in advance and hopefully I asked this in the right section.

I would suggest Custodes because:
- Hyper elite letting you build a full army pretty quick.
- Bikes are pretty cool
- You can always run them along another imperial army at some point, so if you lose interest after 10-15 custodes they're still playable.

Nids are also pretty cool and easy to paint. but they have lots of psychic stuff. Might be a lot of investment, but they're easy to paint. So that's up to you.

Knights. Pick up a renegade box, a castellan or valiant and a few armigers and you're golden. I'm currently having a blast with them.

Dont go grey knights. Just dont. They also are ALL psykers Tau struggle without a good portion of infantry, space wolves dont have a codex yet, demons are unplayable without numbers of small ones and space marines are ... well everyone plays space marines. Tyranids can work well with big bug lists but as Dandelion said: they are pretty psychic. Pretty much every hq is a psyker.
Custodes... meh. They're pretty boring imo. The only thing they have going for them is bike spam.

No psychic powers would put you with Custodes, Sisters (of both flavors), Necrons, Dark Eldar and Tau. Oh, and a Khorne Daemon army.

Of those only the Daemons and Tau really have really big stompy monster things (and basically everything, or almost everything, is in plastic which is good too).

Elite units neither does super well at the moment, but then again the game doesn't seem to have a good sense of balance for elite units in general.S

So it comes down to if you want to shoot your opponent or stab him in the face. The former gets you Tau, the latter gets you Daemons.

Adeptus Mechanicus suits the criteria. They have heaps of mechs, no psychers, and the Start Collecting boxes give you a sturdy army. Their cyborg features just beg for kitbashing into more monstrous forms.

They can complement Knights if you want to change angle

I'd go with custodes.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I'll back custodes as well, but if you are willing to keep an open mind:

ORKS

If you include Forgeworld rules you have options for many big, stompy things like two different sizes of Squigoth and Mega-dreads. Mega armor Nobs can be fun (effectiveness for the time being is lacking) and nob-bike lists can zip around the board and cause havoc.

Good call, an ork dread mob fits the bill perfectly

Watch Fortress Excalibris

Deathwatch. Elite/low-model-count. Easy/quick to paint. Lots of customisation potential. Basically marines as they are supposed to be. Access to dreadnoughts. And you don't need psykers if you don't want them (but could add librarians later if you change your mind).

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.

I'd say if you want something fast and a solid core death guard is worth considering. It also has the bonus of being cheap. Grab two copies of know no fear and either sell off the marines or keep them and have a start for another cheap army too. From two boxes of know no fear you'd have 2 5 man squads of plague marines with a plasma gun, 20 poxwalkers, 2 bloat drones and 2 lord of contagions. Replace the lords of contagion with a daemon prince or some other hqs and you've got a solid core. Depending on the reason why you want to not run psychers you can either give the daemon prince a power to just buff himself and treat it as a bonus special rule or use something like a lord of chaos instead. The death guard models aren't to everyone's tastes but with regards to ease of jumping into an army they're one of the best atm.

If you went for plague marines, bloat drones, a daemon prince and a lord of chaos as your core you'd have an elite army with a monster and elite units in the bloat drones. Should be pretty easy to play, pretty resilient and have a lot of options for expanding.

You could run dark elf covens.

Fantastic suggestions, ty all very much.

The Custodes Bikes look awesome... I wonder if I could make a list of mostly bikes, but wonder if would that be illegal for tournaments. I’m not planning to enter tournaments, but I would like it legal just because. The ideas to run these guys make a lot of sense.

The Orks suggestion would work if I could use the Orruks miniatures instead of regular orks. Love the models.

The adeptus mechanicus with knights sounds like a great idea. Those juggernaut looking robots look awesome.

Khorne demons sounds cool... bloodletters, some khorne juggernauts, and bloodthirstere sounds fun and easy to use.

The deathwatch are cool but missing that visual representation for something big and brutish.

Death guard looks cool, but I kind of want to stay away from something being used by many. I will say, the Mortarion model and the new great unclean one model make for a compelling reason to use them.

I found out Adeptus Titanicus is coming out next month and I’m going to actually hold off on this army and instead just go all in on this new game ( I know it’s based on an older version ).

Not only is it legal but it's actually a really strong choice right now. Custodes Bikespam is how compeitive people run custodes.

Chaos Space marines is another option
You don't need to bring psykers and with forge world there's daemon engines in every slot but hq and troops

I will start looking at my Custodes codex again. The only thing I don’t like is that nothing really compliments the bikes, like a HQ character on a bike also. That’s kind of why I really like the dreadnaughts list that space wolves can take ( bjorn and a whole bunch of other dreadnaughts ).

Chaos Space Marines... Heldrakes would be fun, but kind of hard to transport safely. Their Superheavy, the Lord of Skulls if I remember right, is awesome looking, and so is Magnus. But I’m really not a fan of the rest of their models.
