As an advocate for clean, renewable energy I'm pretty thrilled that my hobby is more eco-friendly .

100,000 kWh generated over the past year is pretty fantastic.

Very neat indeed and great to see! Although I'd be interested to see if they do anything regarding their plastic in the near future. I do seem to recall one store manager telling me half the upper floor of their store was all GW sprues from duff castings or off ends from projects or competitions. If GW could setup a return delivery system and a recycling system for sprue plastic that would be a big thing

I'm just going to say it. But before I do, I really do not mean any offense to any of you.

But Jesus listening to people moan about the darned Ork book is getting about as old as the old crowd of Chaos SM whiners back in seventh edition. It will be out, when it comes out. Just be patient, not every article needs to have a hammered in Ork reference!

Also, good on GW! I would really like to see more companies doing stuff such as this, every little bit helps and it's good to start leading by example.

I remember the old days when the only thing solar energy could be counted on with Gw was to melt finecast minis causing them to sag. Good on Gw for going green although I'd have preferred this announcement to coincide with the first news of the 8th edition ork codex.

I think this thread highlights how Dakka is going to need some kind of Orks Anonymous Therapy group soon!

If the rate of ork thread invasion continues at this steady rate then soon every thread will be full of raving mad orks! A blighted Wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwargh so huge that we'd have to employ the Ratmen from Sigmar to come and invade and counter their Waaarghing rage with their warped rattish intelligence

So, just for the record - not an ork player, never have been, and never have once complained about lack of Ork stuff. Feel free to check my post history. Simmer down, don't be so quick to chide people. It's not that big of a deal. <3

To be fair I wasn't actually trying to chide you as I recognized that you were making a joke. The FB side of things has just been atrocious when it comes to complaints about the Ork codex, and it was getting old seeing the comments on everything from new specialist games to articles about painting.

If it carries on at this rate, H.B.M.C. will have to start inserting random sarcastic barbs at Ork players instead of Sisters players

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

At the end of the day, Ork players still play Orks, the single most fun race in 40K. Even if they're behind on releases, they can always look back at their excellent model range and awesome fluff.

Sisters players are just so dour!

Anyway, the topic, GW runs a massive casting business and has a huge warehouse. This requires power. Setting up solar (even if it is in England) to save money makes 100% sense. Good idea that. I look forward to them passing the savings onto us themselves.

Hey.

Hey now.

Come on.

I mean, you're right.

But come on.

But yeah, good on GW for doing this. While we see GW as a bit of a monolith when it comes to our chosen hobby, they're pretty small fry in the global economy, so seeing them spend a little time and money to do something like this is a good thing.

There's been no end of PV arrays gone up over the last few years here in the UK countryside. It's encouraged under BREEAM to be green, and one of the easiest ways to do that is to have a photo-voltaic 'farm'.

I really like the article. It is good to see a company get it. The fact that solar power can help the environment and save the company money. As far as ork players commenting about the future codex everyone needs to understand that players put a lot of time in their hobby. They get frustrated just look at SOB players. I get their frustration two. Eventually GW will put out what the players want or someone else will.

Look at Epic GW dropped it and now Vanguard miniatures is selling a whole line of epic compatible products. GW you can get my money or someone else will. If you create a vacuum someone else will fill it. I am sure the delay is being caused by GW because they want to give the ork players what they deserve. If they don't they might as well exterminate the orks like they did with squats. If it happens my money will go elsewhere.

Being a cynical person myself I cannot but wonder how much of the cost of going green was subsidized by the UK/EU through the funds for renewable energies (e.g. the EEEF)

I think the next thing to do might be enchourage GW to look into recycling oppertunies for their sprues, plastic is becoming the next big green issue and even if GW only recycled sprues in the UK it'd be a good thing enviuromentally

While the environmental friendliness can't be dismissed, I think its worth noting that last year it was reported that power grid limitations in the area GW's factory is located and the very slow progress in updating that regional infrastructure meant that despite GW's desire to expand its factory with more manufacturing equipment it was at a limit. I wouldn't doubt that this helps them address some of that.

Their entire business is based on plastic tho. It's cool tho they are increasing profits via alternative energy.

The carbon cost of returning sprues is almost certainly not worth it from an environmental perspective, infrastructure in the U.K. exists that covers recycling on a domestic level so shouldn’t be a concern anyway.

Subsidy seems unlikely given the commercial nature of the business although tax relief might qualify as the same, PVs are usually installed to offset environmental efficiency planning requirements (BREEAM as noted) on new developments. GW haven’t I believe extended their holdings as yet so this seems like a genuine attempt to address environmental concerns and gain green costs savings.
