In case nobody has seen it, it's silly.

It replaces a Storm Bolter and it gains AP-1 and D2. Then it gets Assault 4. Then it gets the Helfrost rule because.

Why do they get a better shooting weapon than the Dark Angels and Vanilla Marines? At least Fury of Deimos is better at horses right?

well it's worth noting that the space wolves Melee weapon is worse.

(Space Wolf)Krackenbone sword: S: +1 AP -4 D: 1 cost: 7 points
(Space Marine)Teeth of Terra: S +1 AP -2 D 2 May make an additional 1d3 attacks. Cost: 0 points
(Space Marine) Burning Blade S +2 AP-5 D1 cost: 5 points

so yeaaaah, there is that.

I suspect we'll be seeing a large amount of power creep with this codex. Space Wolf players will be happy. I was entertaining doing a retro Space Wolf force, but I probably won't now.

PS: I play Eldar Craftworld (non-named), and Chaos Renegades...I don't even use relics most games. They're that bad in my books, lol.

Honest to god question, but how can a relic be bad given they're free?

I have a Rune Priest on a bike with a Storm bolter. I thought he was shooty before, now he's just insane. It will be almost as good as having a Custodes Jetbike Captain with hurricane bolter.

enjoy it well it lasts, he'll be index only

I am not too bothered about the bolter. Living Lightning and the Freki and Geri psychic powers seem OP to me.

Whats that, SWs hate maleficarum - well SW armies are going to be packing psykers in like Malefic Lords pre-nerf!

Living Lightning is gonna be good but it'll take some trickyness to get off right, that said if someone have firing lines of large numbers of 5 man units then yes it'll rip through them like a hot knife through butter.,

They cost either limited slot or CP.

Yes the free one uses a single limited slot.

So why would you not use one?

Because there are better relics than the bad ones?

Just because some relics are bad doesn't mean ALL are bad.

In this case I was responding to someone saying ALL Eldar relics are bad, I mean sure none are great but for freebies there's gotta be something you can toss on there

I'm not sure we'll see this relic too often. The weapon relics aren't usually taken unless the special ability ones are terrible.

Plus if you are doing soup, you'll likely want something from another faction for your WL and relic

I might take it in addition to what else I take, I have a wolf lord modeled with a storm bolter

Only if Smashcaptains are what you mean by Blood Angels. Seriously the Space Wolves army is looking to be MUCH better.

this. People's idea of a strong codex right now is "it has one broken unit I can use with soup" I'd rather a codex be solid over all with a strong internal consistancy and all units "usable" maybe I won't win as many tournies with a collection of cheese but it means I can feel good about my entire army, not run a "space wolves" army that consists of a buncha guard and custodes with a single space wolf HQ backed by some cheap troops

Gotta love this forum, here i am discussing that the SW are not as strong as they look, while at the same time there are 2 threads where it has already been accepted that the new SW are crap.

There's always been a strong current on Dakka that basicly declares every codex without an obvious "I win button" as crap.

making Marines cheaper will address some of it but IMHO there are some other issues with Marines.

they also could use some love on the stratigums front. tweek the cost of a few down, and maybe give them some new ones.

Here's a fun strat I'd like to see "Transhuman Dread Seeing Space Marines making war up close and personal is a terrifying sight, that can unman even the bravest When an Astartes unit is in melee combat against a non astartes (or heretic astartes) force you may deploy this stratigium. the unit in close combat takes a -1 penalty to all leadership checks well in combat"

Or something along those lines, allow space marines to really use shock tactics well. (and I'd be all for this being given to chaos space marines and varient marine codices as well) it'd be situational but might be handy.

The only thing, and I mean the only thing, that Wolves relic storm bolter has over the Dark Angels one is the Helfrost-like rule. If this is all the power creep there is, I'm not worried.

Its also assault 4. If the DA stormbolter was assault 4 i wouldnt care

It's literally superior to the Dark Angel one in every single way.

Well maybe the dark angels would have better toys if they weren't such UNTRUSTING PARIOID DICKS!

but yeah in all seriousness the dark angels storm bolter just outright SUCKS. leaving aside comparisons to the new space wolves storm bolter, it's ALSO inferior to the Primarch's wraith. this isn't so much Codex creep as the Dark Angels relic stormbolter is just out and out BAD

Or, in the case of GK, substantially cheaper.

Man imagine this being GW plan. Primaris models not really used or bought, so people don't hate them or care about them. Whole edition of normal marines being the bad, people start hating them more and more with each game they play. Then 9th rolls around and primaris have new spiffy rules, that actualy do work, and marine players flock to play them. Maybe even splater some really undercosted transport unit that can shot for them. Everyone ditchs the old marines and buys in to the primaris.

At the same time GK player go where did everyone go, as they do not have access to primaris

I doubt it, the fact is that if GW wanetd to do something like that it seems a bit odd that they went so far out of their way with their introduction to make Primaris NOT obselete old marines.
