I have recently got into warhammer 40k and have played a few games with a friends team (Dark Angels) against another group of friends, after playing a few games i decided my preferred playstyle is a "im gonna charge into you and kill all your units up close" approach to my games as i feel this is badass and makes me feel so cool.

The two armies i found that caught my eye of doing this are Blood Angels and World Eaters and im not sure which one to choose, i don't really like being a space marine as i feel they are really overdone and are pretty plain, but i dont think this applies to Blood Angels as much and definitely not to World Eaters. If anyone has any advice for which one i should pick, as well as a few troops i could buy to start said army this would help me a lot!

G'day and welcome to Dakka! Those are both great first choices! Are you purely interested in the gaming side of things or are you keen to get into painting and the lore surrounding your force?

What you should do is a Successor Chapter/Chaos Warband called "Blood Eaters"
Basically, get the models you like and model them to look neither overly Chaos (trim off the spikes) or Imperial (avoid the bird icons). Paint them red

Now you have a set of models that can be played as either BAs or WEs. Try out a few games using either set of rules and whichever you tend to like more, that's the army you can eventually settle on and expand

Sounds like you like to charge forwards and punch things.

They're both good choices, but it depends on what you're playing against.

If you're up against a lot of Imperial armies, I'd suggest World Eaters as they have a few inherent buffs that only work against Imperial armies.

If you're up against a lot of big hard things, then I'd suggest BA as they're good at cutting big things down.

Side note, you can also count defeats as victories since as long as models were removed from play Khorne is happy. Unless it was by some pansy ass psyker! You should have Brass Collar of Borghaster'd that punk into the warp like the unmanly model he is!

Also welcome to Dakkadakka and the hobby. Keep a salt shaker handy and this place is the best way to learn what you need to know about painting and modelling and virtually every other aspect of the game as well. Don't know, just ask and somebody somewhere will be able to help.

As for what to buy? Well you really can't go wrong with any of the Start Collecting boxes for any faction! They offer pretty great deals and often it's worth it to buy two. I started with an SC box for Chaos Marines and built all the models in it as melee guys. The Helbrute you get is really good for its points with two melee fist weapons, and as a World Eater it will get +1 attack for charging as well as +1 attack for having two melee weapons. With some help from the included Chaos Lord in Terminator Armour he can really lay down a beating on pretty much anything. But remember how I said Khorne cares not whose models are removed, simply that they be removed? Well the Helbrute epitomizes this perfectly as it's kind of a glass cannon, or a pig iron cannon. It can and will die very easily, but it can also wreck face. Plenty of people will argue against chainsword equipped Chaos Marines, and they have very valid points, but I still like them. Especially now since you can simply give one guy a Plasma Gun and still be able to shoot effectively with your melee oriented squad since now firing the Plasma will not prevent you from charging.

So, to summarize. Skulls for the Skull Throne, Start Collecting Box, and... Attack!!!!

Welcome to Dakka! I'd have to recommend World Eaters too (as much as it goes against my Imperial blood...), as there's mentions of some tasty chaos stuff on the horizon. I'm sure you won't go wrong whatever choice you go for!
