Hi everyone,

I'm hoping to compete in a local tourny in a few months, after not playing in a tourny for almost 15 years.
So, my first 8th edition tourny I guess
I have more models then the army below, but no Knights, just a few vehicles (2 Rhino's, a Defiler, a Predator), some more Havocs and Raptors and a bunch of Chaos (fantasy) Knights that I'm converting to (steel horse cavalry) 'Bikers'.
But in my armies the above units usually perform badly, while Cultists, Cult Marines, Obliterators and Daemon Princes do well for me.

This army is meant to be pretty solid against all comers.

If you have any tips, tricks or comments, or spot some glaring weakness, please tell!

Alpha Legion Battalion (+5 CP)
Gifts of Chaos (-1 CP)

HQ
Lord with Jumppack, Bolt Pistol and Hydra Blade (MoSlaanesh)
Daemon Prince with Wings, Warp Bolter and 2x Talons (MoSlaanesh) (Death Hex)

Troops

40x Cultists (2xflamer, 1x heavy stubber, autoguns) (MoSlaanesh)
10x Cultists (autoguns) (no Mark)
10x Cultists (autoguns) (no Mark)

Elite
5x Noise Marines (1x BlastMaster, 4x Sonic Blaster, Powersword for Champ)
5x Noise Marines (1x BlastMaster, 4x Sonic Blaster, Powersword for Champ)
5x Noise Marines (1x BlastMaster, 3x Sonic Blaster, Lightningclaw for Champ)
5x Rubric Marines (incl. Aspiring Sorcerer)
5x Rubric Marines (incl. Aspiring Sorcerer)

Heavy
3x Obliterators (MoSlaanesh)

Death Guard Battalion (+5 CP)
Gifts of Decay (-1 CP)

HQ
Lord (Warlord: Arch Contaminator) with Bolt Pistol and Plague Bringer
Daemon Prince (Mark of Nurgle obviously) with 2x Talons and Suppurating Plate (Curse of the Leper)

Troops
5x Plague Marines (Champion with Plasmagun, 2x Blight Launcher)
5x Plague Marines (Champion with Plasmagun, 2x Blight Launcher)
5x Plague Marines (Champion with Plasmagun, 2x Blight Launcher)
5x Plague Marines (Champion with Plasmagun, 2x Blight Launcher)

Total: 11 CP, 4 HQ, 80 Troops, 25 Elites and 3 Heavy (incl. 4 Psychers and 3 Artefacts)

Tactics / Battlefield Roles
Alpha Legion
Army is a slow moving gunline that should be able to move forward / backward from cover to cover to rooftop.
The 40 Slaanesh Cultists can act as roadblock infiltrators if the opponents looks to be into early (turn 1) quick advancement.
Or they can act as attack/objective infiltrators against opposing gunlines. If needed they can be recycled with Tide of Traitors.

The other Cultists will advance and sneak towards objectives, while also screening advancing Deamon Princes.
The winged Deamon Prince is there to Death Hex advancing Knights or other annoying stuff and kill heavy stuff in CC.

Alpha Lord should stay back and aid the Noise Marines and Rubrics (and act as a countercharge unit).
Alpha Legion Elites should stay back and shoot up the opposition while benefiting from -1 to hit at 12"+.
Though they are capable of close combat as well (especially the Noise Marines)
The Obliterators are there to teleport in and gun down heavy stuff (with help of strategems and dicerolls).

Death Guard
Death Guard Plague Marines should act as a group (Lord in the middle) to benefit from Arch Contaminator as much as possible.
They should be advancing towards objectives and act as hard to kill fire magnets.

Nurgle Daemon Prince has a free role (depending on opposition), possibly baby sitting the Plague Marines (CC protection).

Firstly, remember you can choose your relics and spells before each game; I make a habit of when I write the list and print it, to leave a blank space that way I can write in if theres a change (I also put a note at the top that spells and relics are subject to change, these are what I will take most games). Helps smooth stuff over and you don't waste time....

As for the list, its a very... interesting.... list. However, it will get run over in an ITC format match because you give up secondaries really easily, and have no real staying power.

I would cut the Noise Marines and Rubrics for more obliterators, if you have some. This will give you big threats your opponent will have to handle. I would also get some Mephetic Blighthaulers if you have some cash to spare, if your using a walking wall of Plague Marines these help a lot giving you a 2+ save. I wouldn't make a lord your warlord either, with Knights around (and snipers are really common in tourneys, especially eldar rangers) they can pick him off easily and you lose a lot of strength. I would make the prince your lord with arch contaminator and sneak another prince in as your second HQ there.

Hope this helps!

Thanx for the comments!

Good point on the snipers.. forgot about the sniper knights ; that would ruin my plans indeed
I'll ditch the Deathguard lord and change it for a Malignant Plaguecaster (more utility, less of a target for snipers I hope).
Don't have points (nor money) for an extra prince unfortunately. Nor for the Blighthauler (great idea though).

And I'll ditch the Rubrics for extra Slaanesh Obliterators (I don't have more then 3, but I'll convert some of the many spare Terminators I have and don't use).
The Noise Marines must stay because I love them too much, and they do well for me in battles (we play with lots of scenery usually).
That'd make my Alpha legion Slaanesh only, which is great for thematics (though perhaps not so fluffy, Alpha Legion seems to be Chaos Undivided mostly, but also very secretive, so ahwell ).
