Fallschirmjäger in Italy - Kickstarter
About the Fallschirmjäger
When one hears Fallschirmjäger, Crete is the first thing many think of. But even after 1941 they were sent on many missions, often as a "fire brigade" that turned the tide of a battle.
Monte Cassino, Unternehmen Eiche or Ortona (also known as Little Stalingrad) are names that tell the story of the later years, of the Fallschirmjäger in Italy. And like the Gebirgsjäger, the Fallschirmjäger were equipped with specialized equipment, like the Leichtgeschütze or the Raketenwerfer Püppchen.
After the mud and snow on the Eastern Front and the mountains of the Caucasus, Heer 46 this time covers the Southern front, i.e. the Fallschirmjäger in Italy from 1943 on.
The basic units will - as always - consist of 2 x 10 soldiers and also feature a Mortar Team and a Heavy MG. With regard to the equipment we will focus on the summer uniforms, i.e. short trousers and shirts, etc., worn by the Fallschirmjäger in Italy. We will also cover the fights in and around Montecassino and provide extra add-ons for it. Another hot spot will be the spectacular "Unternehmen Eiche", the rescue of Mussolini by a commando unit of the Fallschirmjäger. As before we will have a closer look at the specialized equipment of the Fallschirmjäger and make as much as possible available to you.
You are in for quite some surprises! A novelty of this Kickstarter is the fact that all miniatures will be sculpted digitally. Our test-miniatures have already been painted by Ruben and the quality of the digitally sculpted miniatures is excellent.

Actually no. They were produced in rather limited numbers and became fewer and fewer over time. At best there were 2000 FG 42 around at any given time.

I've heard around 2000 first, but then another 5000 of a later (very similar) model.

As far as I know the mangan steel used for that first run was no longer available later.
There is a reason for them looking angry... they had no breakfast.

does the guy on the top row, third from the left have his thumb over the stock of the FG42? pretty sure you can't do that...
Maybe these are sculpted by the same guy that did the Warlord US airbourne model with pistol-grip BAR....

I don't remember the details, but they ran out of some stuff needed to continue more of that first run, so the second run they worked out ways to replace stuff with alternatives. Some things made out of stamped metal instead of milled for example.
So there were absolutely more than 2000 made, but that's not to say many were in use during the time and place these models represent.

Well spotted Mousemuffins, will relay this to our sculptor.
@Zywus
Of the version depicted on the miniatures no more than 2000 were made. All in all 7500 were produced during the war with three visually different designs and many small changes made.
The leadership was also quite reluctant giving them out so that fewer than would be expected were available at the time of the Italy campaign. The first field use was during the rescuing of Mussolini and ironically none of the FG 42 were shot.
Btw: The KS funding has increased quite a bit:

I see. Didn't realize the different designs were visually different enough to show on miniatures this scale so I lumped the different types together.

Oaks and Trumpets
The Kickstarter is only a few bucks away from 7,5k and the free trumpeter and the next stretch goal are miniatures for Operation Eiche.

Can I get a brief history of these guys?
Also, can I pledge the minimum and add to it later when I have more funds? I've been thinking of getting into Bolt Action but was looking for some more unique Germans.

I think we can work something out. The only thing is, it will not go towards the stretch goals if you pledge afterwards.
I will get back to you soon.
If you want to know more about the Fallschirmjäger hostory this is a good start:
