Trying to do some searches on this but not really finding anything.

My son is really interested in building terrain and wargaming so I intend to strike whilst the iron is hot. We want to try and do a winter themed table.I found lots of products from this company at very reasonable prices compared to GW, GF9, Army Painter, etc. However, I know that the model railroad stuff isn't meant to be handled after it is put into place, whereas the wargame terrain is always touched and moved. So I don't know if the model railroad stuff can take the abuse. I don't want to build all this up and then ruin it after a few games.

If you glue it down with copius amounts of pva it should be ok.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

At least as far as stuff like their flocks or static grass is concerned, it's the same product. Their big containers are overkill if you're just basing models, but for terrain they're the best way to go.

Specifically I was looking at this:

Yeah, it's not really any different from GW or Gale Force 9 snow flock. It should work just as well.

I've got that product, and been using it for my winter-themed DE. It stands up to wear just fine.

To be fair, I do use a double layer of it over the muddy brown ground basing to get good coverage, and hit it with a good coat of varnish when the mini is done...

Most gaming stuff is literally just Woodland Scenics products repackaged with a new logo and a nice markup.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I use that flock on my bases without problems. Now, they don’t get the wear and tear that a flocked table would, but I’ve had no issues with it.

We (and as it transpires, Mel the Terrain Tutor) use similar stuff, the Jarvis flocks- like others have said, go heavy on your PVA sealant and Matt varnish and you'll be fine

I have a whole table themed using that exact product. I have 3 2 foot by four foot boards. of foam. I carved them, covered them with spackle and painted them white, then applied the exact product you are looking at. Do not sprinkle it over PVA but mix it in. I use 50/50 water and PVA, then pour in the flock (about a 50% ratio) and pour it over my boards. it dries SUPER hard and looks like snow that has sat for a while. I do then coat it with a cheap can of spray varnish. It took me three bottles to do what you see here, and I did it in separate coats. A single bottle done this way can cover about four square feet if solid, but I recommend doing it patchy as I did.
In short, this stuff works great, just coat it.
Pictures of my boards: (little dark, should have opened the garage door)

I also used it to base these minis:

Keeping the hobby side alive!

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

[size=18] I never thought about a snow board before. Thank you everybody for the info. I may have to try this soon myself.
