Hi
A quick question. Do Adeptus Custodes operate in squads of three in the fluff? This also goes for Wardens. Just that am trying to build a fluffy list.

If you can build it in the list, it's fluffy. There aren't any real non-fluffy unit options.

Alright thanks for the information. I’ll probably do my 3 squads of four Custodes then a five man squad of Wardens.

While I'm not super familiar with Custodes in particular but that isn't really true. There are a lot of lists that really push what the background supports in order to win games/tournaments.

I think in the First Heretic it’s a four man squad of custodies 1 shield captain and 3 regular custodes with spears.

I was speaking from a mono-codex unit options perspective, not an allies based one. The Loyal 32 is an issue all it's own and while it can be justified via lore (say it's part of a collapsing defensive line that's being reinforced by a heavier force, or it's the first part of a larger support element moving to support the forward element of a Knight or Space Marine faction), most people don't bother thinking too heavily about lore for competition and thus I feel like it's all a moot point.
I mean, there are people who do, but it's so rare that I don't feel like it's worth dragging up the topic when someone is asking about fluffy unit build options inside of a single codex.

I don't think they have rigid formations like Space Marines do. Every Custodian is trained as an army of one, they're extremely individualistic which is the opposite philosophy to the brotherhood of the Marines.
Not to say they don't care for their fellow Custodians, but every one is trained to ultimately be flexible to what is needed at that moment and to think for themselves and trust in themselves.
As such, they send exactly as many as they think are needed, whether that's 1, 3, 5, or dozens.
For the game of course you need to organise everything into units still. It would be more fluffy for each Custodian to be a separate unit, but not really practical to play. It is nodded to in the Stratagem that allows Allarus Custodians to split apart and fight separately though!

I think Custodian squads (outside of direct orders from whoever is in charge at the moment) are made up of whatever group of guys that are currently bro-fisting each other at the moment.
They all think and act for themselves, yet know that being beside a brother in arms ups their own chances of success.

yeah there are no custodes squads. Rather then "Squad one, go capture that point" it's "John, Richard, Henry, go capture that point!"

To be fair, with Custodes it's more:
"John Richardson Constantinople Gary Michaelson Studabaker Yule Trenton Fredrickson Baker...."
Seriously if you get a new name added every time you perform a meritorious action it could take weeks to order a whole squad of guys. No wonder they all work alone.

I have a question for custodes players that played marines extensively, do they feel like a more elite army?
This edition marines don't feel very elite, and it's been kinda meh on the tabletop

Custodes have the proper elite feel to them, yeah. Unless you are firing, then you don't do much because they don't have the volume or quality of shooting.
Unless you are using a ton of Jetbikes or Telemon Dreadnoughts. Then you have ALL the dice.
But in meele? When your basic dude can melt enemy characters without a problem in meele, man, that feels soo good. When the enemy charges his uber character with meele support into your unit of 3 Allarus Custodians and they just bounce back and are melted in return by those 12 WS2+ S8 -2AP D3D attacks...

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Yeah, Custodes are an all or nothing force. If an enemy doesn't totally wipe them in one turn the Custodes will hit back HARD.
The Basic Custodian guard is the hardest troop choice in the game. Heck, he's more elite than most Elite choices, or even HQ's. One on One (not counting special characters or relics) the only real things that would worry me would be greater daemons, Ork Warbosses, Grey knight Nemesis Dreadknight Grand Masters, or suped-up Nurgle Lords.
That being said, you'll have one guy to your opponent's 5 or 6.

to back this up custodes basicly feels like an army of CHARACTERSI mean a Custodes Guard has WS+2 BS2+ T5 W3 3 attacks, and a 2+ 4++ thats better then some armies characters, shooting wise, as Galas said, it's pretty "meh" although their guardian spear shooting is a master crafted bolt gun so 2 damage on each shot makes each shot a little better vs larger multiwound targets, amusingly I think ustodes are the best counter in the game to a Primaris Army

I keep waffling on starting a Custodes army because that bone and gold look of the Solar Guard subfaction is frikkin' sweet, but I keep reining myself in to try and not start too many projects. I'm already having fun painting GSC and have Imperial Fists on the back burner, the last thing I need to do right now is start a third army before I get at least one of those two caught up on painting.

At least the ones I've finished look nice.

I might pull the trigger once I finish catching up my GSC. Bone and gold just goes together far too well to not want to do eventually.
It's basically what makes Deathwing look cool but on an army that punches closer to its weight than the Terminators do.

I have the starter set DG and I keep looking at them and I want to do their armour in their OG Crusade scheme (off-white and green copper trim).
I guess I can safely admit that I'm a sucker for lighter paint schemes. But then I go and paint my GSC with dark blues and greys so maybe I'm just an idiot who likes to do different things with little rhyme or reason.

I like how gold Custodes look, but I didn't really enjoy painting them all that much. :/
My GSC are basically GW's scheme swapping red for orange and layering the vehicle armour quite as bright.
