So after having an... accident with some of my models I was pretty fed up with the usual foam transporting way for my models.
Glueing 1250pts of Skitarii back together ain't fun. Looking into magnet trays, I found them to be... rather expensive for what they are, so I did some digging and made some of my own.
Disclaimers first, I did not come up with this idea, but was inspired by this youtube vid:

Anyhow, these are my custom AdMechy magnet trays, simple and cheap to make.
The small one is designed to have fit codexes, rulebooks, dice and other accesoires below it, while the second one is higher so I can safely store higher models like Ironstriders and Onagers below.
If required, smaller infantry like skitarii can fit on top as well.

A box from a craft store
2 sheets of steel, precut in said craft store to fit the inner dimensions of the box
2 thin mdf boards to provide some stability
a bit of metal laquer
decals (Etsy)
furniture handles from the craft store
and some cheap wooden blocks for feet.

Total cost per tray is about 10€ (mostly due to the precut steel sheets being ridiculously expensive), so go ahead, pick a size and build your own magnet trays!

Some day when I build a second army I want to buy a cooler with a handle and the wheels on the back. Then fix some wooden dividers vertically for sections. Then have little knobs that can screw on by hand to support metal trays for multiple layers.

I'm not sure what you paid for the sheet steel, but sheets of flashing from the roofing aisle of your home improvement store should do the trick. They'd be too thin for structural rigidity but will give the magnetic surface. One of my regular opponents did something similar with sheets of roofing flashing glued to the bottoms of plastic storage boxes.

Great paint and decals, that adds a nice touch!

Very cool.

If i was more of an insane person than i already was id use some of the new gw terrain pieces to replace those mdf spaces for an eve cooler trays

the home depot carries pre cut flashing in 12x8"s for like 1.50$

dunno about Germany though.
