Calgar is up on the community. T5, 8 wounds, 2+4++, and half damage still. So basically almost like Guilliman. Ohh and then he gets the Chapter Master reroll all to hit rolls..

If he is under 200 points, he might just make it to the field for me fairly often.

He is seriously tasty.

Feels like he does the job of guilliman, only not as well. Makes sense I guess for being less expensive.

And those honour guard just make that box sooo nice

Trajen is down to 175. So calgar should be that cost or less.

I'm betting ~200 points.

I base that that most SM stuff seems to be going down in the CA.

While the stat line looks good, unless he has some other rules, I'm not entirely sure I see 220 points worth of model there. An average Daemon Prince sits around 150 for a similar stat line (worse armour though).

I hope I can still use the old Calgar in the future. . .

Does the new guy have the ability to Deep Strike? Presumably he can't ride in a Land Raider.

They say in the article he has Gravis armour. I'm pretty certain that he'll not deep strike and only be able to ride in Repulsor.

To my knowledge, there aren't any units PL11 that can be under 200Pts unless they also have tons of upgrades skewing the "average", but even those have to be barebones to be under 200pts

As Calgar does not appear to have varied options, he is almost guaranteed over 200pts
At any rate he name in this version should be "Primarneus Calgar"

I like that these are his stats in his new armor, NO REUSING RT MODELS FOR YOU!

That is a very impressive statline. He still only does d3 damage, but hey if the price is right he can make a great budget Guiliman. He is a great fighter in his own right as well. Halving all damage he takes is a big winner. If the price is right in the 180-200 market I can see him being used in a lot of marine lists.

Well hes currently 200 points with 7w and t4 but -1 damage. If he does not retain the -1 damage he is actually significantly worse and ill be using old calgar. You have to compare to Trajen who is better than Calgar in more ways than 1.

If you're firing lascannons mostly, Calgar + a Lieutenant is essentially budget Guilliman. Guilliman is mainly there to help volume dakka hurt big things.

That's an impressive profile when you combine it with his re-roll aura and all the command points he gives you. Couple that with the rumoured significant point drop in CA and I definitely think he'll find a place in any UM army. If only the new chaos hero was even half as good.

I take back my quip about his points costs. I didn't realize there was a full article up - and that he has a mini-Guilliman aura. Yep, auto-take for Ultramarines at 200-220 points. Sadly reducing Ultramarines to an even more consistent non-moving castle of random shooty things.

Exceptionally boring unfortunately. The Chaos fella at least has some character.

They mentioned in the article that he still halves all damage he takes. With 8 wounds that's pretty significant.

I know their power levels are drastically different, but the chaos lord seems woefully underpowered compared to the latest primaris lieutenant.

It seems like it might have made more sense to have a chaos character who could reasonably have challenged calgar to be his new nemesis.

Seems a bit ridiculous that they just gave him everything:

-Gravis benefits (T5)
-Terminator benefits (2+ and extra wound, stacking with his Primaris bonus wound)
-artificer armour’s lack of movement penalty
-His unique one of a kind previous armour’s half damage ability
-Iron halo

If we class the wound halfing as an intrinsic Calgar ability and ignore it being ported over from his old armour, then he should still probably have movement 5 and 7 wounds. Just giving him all the benefits at once seems like lazy game design.

I think the Chaos guy is genuinely just a stand-in character to fight alongside the inevitable reveal of Abaddon (within 80 days perhaps...) who will presumably beat Calgar about the head and neck with digits and phalanges.

I like consistency - these rules are consistent. Plus he's 220 points.

That's clearly intentional. Calgar needs a foe he can smack down with ease as a warm-up for a later big-bad. Likely Abby, Fulgrim or Angron. And Guilliman will make an appearance after that.
Character escalation is the name of the game.

Actually my entire point was that he’s not designed particularly consistently. I don’t feel he’s particularly overpowered, but he’s absolutely benefitting from thee different types of armour’s benefits even before factoring in his damage halfing ability. Having relic power armour -that good- really doesn’t seem very fluffy at all.

Does Gravis armour have a movement penalty?

Yes.

So even if we assume Cawl tore apart his priceless relic terminator armour, saved all the good systems and converted it into gravis-terminator armour with the benefits of both and his unique damage halfing benefit, which I guess is a fair enough if slightly excessive approach, he should still have M5 at the very least.

I actually like it a lot for a UM character.

I dont play Marines, but he seems very fun to play with, good in melee ok at shooting, has a good aura, and can live longer than normal (thats the important park) but not to over strong like Gman.

This is a great balanced character, at least IMO it is.
