LE2 Imperial Space Marine.

While before my time, this model was the very first version of the space marine design that would evolve into what we know and love today. This Sculpt is by the great Bob Naismith and is, along with the other possibly “proto” Space Marine, (the LE10 Power Armored Marine) one of my very favorite models in my entire collection. From it’s design to being almost medeaval, brutal and savage - with practical pouches and a futureistic Ray-Gun, this model oozes 40k and was a sign of things to come aesthetically. In particular I love the sabatons, they’re not the big chuncky ones we’re used to today and help emphasize the scale of the Space Marines (who, at this time in the lore, were more like regular dudes in power armor - still genetically enhanced, the best of the best, but more in line with regular humans).

I love this model, and possibly because of it we have the Space Marines I love today.

I’ve decided to paint this guy as a pre-Heresy Night Lord - so I can use him as one of my armies HQ’s. He deserves it and will be seeing the battlefield every game I play.

Thanks for checking it out!

A great way to describe the RT era; a nice trip down memory lane. Great model and I really enjoy seeing more modern paint schemes and techniques on older models.

Thanks for sharing.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Ace job. Mean, moody and menacing, just like a Night Lord should be!

Super cool stuff - the Night Lords paint job suits them really well, top stuff!

I didn't know that Bob sculpted this guy! Blimey, that's awesome. I believe that it was his task to produce the first plastic Rhino, which is an incredibly kit in itself - especially for the time.

He also sculpted Mantic Games' Undead range (and more). I love my lovely Undead army...

As someone who used to live in LE2, this title confused me.

He's pretty sexy. Kudos.
