If you get the colours right it will be Nard to tell the difference!

Sadly I'm doing a different color scheme than Nard.

I wanted to thank Nard for creating this idea. It's just outstanding work, the stuff of nightmares truly.

So the above green was a test. The carapace will be closer to the tentacles in color. I'm hoping that it goes well. I wasn't satisfied at all with the solid color green that I originally choose.

The undercoat is black followed by a partial basecoat of waghflesh and white 50/50 ish. Mostly only areas I wanted to stand out were painted with the 50/50 the rest was left dark. Than a basecoat again of all waghflesh, once again followed with a dry brush of warboss green. And a shade of Athoniam camoshade. Later to be highlighted with Skarskin green sybarite green wurm green from P3 and lastly feathered with moot green. I chose waghflesh because of ease of use.

The caparace will probably be a 50/50 warboss green moot green or this wurm green from P3 With a moot green feathering on the ridges.

Originally I wanted to do this all out of clear resin and silicone molds. With a translucent white still entirely possible. But very complicated to pull of. Maybe one day.

I'm currently loving miliput over the traditional green stuff. It's actually very flexible. And I've heard good things about green stuff miliput mixtures. Moving forward with this army in the future I'm going to be doing a lot of tentacles.

I'm going to attempt a replica of the above named style. But with green instead of pink. It's not fair to Nard to go pink. That's his thing and it's iconic. However green seems to be the way to go. I've actually done some thinking about colors and will probably change up initial paint scheme to closer resembling Nards.

Again Nard deserves all the credit for the original concept. And hopefully isn't cheesed his ideas are being borrowed.

Nard's Nids were a set of gorgeous models, I like that you're going the same route with the tentacles!

And my first snag. So I've learned that despite some flexibility the miliput does get brittle when it's thiner so I saw online someone here mentioned that they can be mixed green stuff and miliput.

I'm going to be working with a 50/50 miliput Greenstuff mix from this point on its a pure Joy to use. So here we have the curing tentacles on some wax paper later to be shaped and glued on.

I honestly feel that if you're working with green stuff you can go alot further for cheaper mixing. I can't tell you what the cure time will be or working time. But it seems like a while. I'm going to leave this batch overnight and use the flexibility to support the more brittle miliput ones.

Yeah the original was just amazing gak. Nard is what got me into nids but I've always put off buying them because of difficulty. I figure this a good way to push myself and a good gateway into more professional sculpting. Thanks for the comment. What do you think I should get next for 8th edition games and 7th. I'm thinking an all large creature list.

Alright folks. I've finally nailed down a color scheme that I'm excited about and I may or may not buy an airbrush just to do it. The above brood lord will probably go back into the soup and be stripped and repainted. I think I may spot strip the paint only on the carapace. So the color scheme I've chosen after seeing this video I figured the yellow/orange would contrast well for the carapace. While the main body of the nid will be moot green as seen above. With the claws using a gradient from orange to, red to, yellow, to green, than finally blue for the majority of the talons/claws spiky bits.

I hope I'm going to right way here. Should I do blue for the carapace? What do you guys think? I could even do the body and tentacles yellow / orange than do the carapace green to blue.. Which also sounds very cool.

Originally Nard used a bright hot pink color for the body and a slivery white color for the carapace and it looks amazing .

I found that I didn't like or enjoy the all green orc colored nid I painted but adding yellow and blue to the model might just be the thing to make it look extra terrifying. But the question is yellow or green tentacles. What do you guys think?

The video below seems to convey some of the ideas I may be using.

Moot green body and tentacles with bright blue in the recesses and dark areas.. With a red/orange/yellow carapace. blue/green/yellow claws The whole thing may require an airbrush.

Starting to reach the desired amount of nightmare juice. Probably 2 or more batches of tentacles. And than moving onto the arms
