Omadon's Realm

I feel like I'm mostly comfortable taking on marines now, or militia/ solar aux etc. But I am wary about facing Custodes, I've not fought them yet but hear they are pretty OP, even after their recent alterations.

What mechanicum units are considered worthwhile against them?

Custodes aren't OP so much as they're an out-of-context problem for the way people build Legion lists, and you've got a lot of tools the Legions don't have for fighting them. Between Rite of Pure Thought Adseculari and T7+ robots packing S10 melee if a Custodian unit Deep Strikes right in front of you you're more than capable of charging right back and either tying them up for an entirely unreasonable length of time or running them over.

Mechanicum actually ruins custodes. We have some options that will make the golden boys cry but we still have to tailor to then phased plasma fusile are great vs legions same with flamers not so much vs custodes.

Ordinatus / knights (porphyrion especially) these are lethal to custodes they will feel out cheesed thoroughly.

Scoria mean bugger him and some s10 robots will be smooshing custodes like bugs.

Reductor artillery those nice medusa cannons are always good for ID

Myrmidon destructors while grav imploder arent good anymore photon thrusters and max distance conversion beamers hurt really bad.

The absolute best choice is of course either ordinatus type but there are lots of options for all 3 types of mechanicum we have lots of ranged ap2 and s10 to ID.

Custodes advantage is near universal 2+ saves, close combat attacks at S6 and Ap 2/3, and excellent supporting tanks, dreads and fast attack units.

Their weakness is the low model count.

Mechanicum has good access to AP 2 and S10, nullifying much of Custodes toughness advantage. Likewise Mechanicum doesn't pay for 2/3+ armor, so our units are slightly cheaper and will end up outnumbering the Custodes, which is rare for our army. Likewise the high toughness of cybernetica makes them slightly more resiliant then a Space Marine equivalent.

Still, you should attempt to keep the Custodes at range, nuke them with S10 AP2 shooting, and only go into CC when you have clear numerical advantages.

This will be hard, as the Custodes have fast units and units with good range and firepower. However they are so expensive that you will be able to focus down elements in turn while they have to move to you.

I have a vehicle heavy talons player in my group, they struggle with fearless blob troops outside of melee and do not consistently pop av14 with flare shields like we can.
Do not initiate melee under any circumstances.
