I've been considering getting a jump pack chaplain for my blood angels army, and it occurred to me that I might want Astorath instead of the generic one or Lemartes. Like Lemartes, he benefits DC, and as I prefer big units of 15 DC, the immune to morale is an actual benefit to me. He also benefits non-DC, which is nice as I tend to get my troops in on the melee action too and am currently using vanguard veterans with storm shields for my main melee unit, although I'm considering either adding DC or switching to them entirely. At only 105 points, he's not much more expensive than Lemartes or even a generic chaplain and comes with a nice weapon and a captain's statline. Anyone have any experience running Astorath after his point drop, or any ideas why I don't see him as often as other chaplains?

Note: I mostly play fairly casual games, but my list does struggle against heavy shooting armies, and mixes primaris and traditional marines.

If you play in tame enough games that 15 DC actually weather a shooting phase, he can be useful sure.

My main gripe with him is that mass of doom is used at the start of the move phase. (And of course can fail on a 1, which means half of my masses fail.)

CC support characters are in a bad spot in the current rules, so expect many-a-game where the DC have to slow their roll to let him keep up, or where he gets easily assassinated and does about nothing.

Move up astorath using character status and then drop in dc and use doa. That way both make the charge.

He definitely is. However I would suggest getting Lemartes before Astorath for accompanying DC. I've found Astorath to be better with SG/VV as they tend to have more PF/TH and the like.
