I have been looking through possible battle mats (4x6') and seem to be struggling to find one that represents a cement city style. I went through the review of such things here (very useful and thanks to those who contributed) and failed to find what I really want. I don't want roads and lots on it (although, some amazing work is out there). I want an expanse of cracked cement to represent urban sprawl, I can then cover with my buildings, terrain etc. A basis for a hive city per se, The typical mats that have terrain like roads, curbs, lots etc actually dictate where things go just a bit more than I wish, and also there are problems with matching the scale etc sometimes.
Currently, I have a table in my garage whose surface has been covered with a textured paint. It works well, but is not portable the way a mat would be.
Anyone with suggestions, links, please give me a hand here. I live in the US, and would be happier with simple shipping etc, to keep cost down, but it isn't a deal breaker.

Have you looked at Urbanmatz's "Asphalt" mats?

PS: Not sure what your budget is, but a quality neoprene mat, particularly from Europe (where most of the best designs are) will be more or less $90 shipped to a US domestic address.

Just looked at those as well as one called Deepcut Studios. Both make excellent mats. Thanks for pointing them out Elbows.

Yeah the three good European sources most commonly are: Gamemat.eu, Deepcut Studios, and Urbanmatz.

Deepcut Studios will reimburse you VAT if you email them and arrange it first, Urbanmatz automatically knocks it off (saving you some money), and I'm not sure about Gamemat.eu.

I went with the Deep Cut concrete mat for my necromunda board. I think it looks great, and as you say no markings to dictate limited number of layouts. They so.do.a good ruined cityscape type mat with some craters and stuff but no road markings.

Pics in use.
