So after a 10 year (ish) hiatus, I'm looking to get back into
40k., and oh my, how things have changed. I've come up with this list as a starting point, since I have most of the models, Contemptors and Chaincannon havocs not withstanding. I've always been interested in competitive play and efficient army building, since that's how my brain works, so I'm looking for general opinions on how this list might handle, how competitive it may or may not be, any obvious flaws or weaknesses, and any suggestions for improvement.

The idea is to have a whole load of
CP to use on all of the tasty shoot/fight twice stratagems (Fire Frenzy, Endless Cacophony, Fury of Khorne), and a bunch of others. (Hopefully) Decent shooting comes from the havocs and 3 contemptors in the first turn, laying down 64 S5
AP -1 D1, and 32 S8
AP -1 D2 shots per turn, with the appropriate stratagems. The
CSM are there for screening,
DS denial, and to provide a lot of delicious
CP to feed the guns. The Princes provide psychic support, but also have a 12+
2D6 threat range thanks to the Red Corsairs legion trait. The Slaanesh one is particularly nasty, with 8 S8
AP-2 D2 attacks. Turn 2 the Host Raptorial
DS, threatening stuff with melta fire, multiple charges and a pair of killy-killy Chaos Lords. +2 to the charge distance really makes it much more likely to get into combat after
DS (58.3% vs 27.8%), where the Lords can go to town. Warptalons can't be shot at with overwatch on the turn they charge after
DS, so they tie up any shooty castles before everything else comes in.They can also fight twice for 3
CP, and re-roll all hits for 1
CP, which is nice.
That's the theory anyway. My worry is that I don't actually have enough bodies to hold objectives for longer than a turn and keep my princes screened well, and not enough T1 firepower to threaten knights effectively (a perpetual problem it seems). I think the list is decent against everything else. Butcher cannon are pretty good against flyers and bikes, chaincannon are pretty good against infantry blobs, death hex is pretty good against smash captains, knights, and eldar, and the chainlord is pretty good against everything.
Obviously, I'm yet to actually play 8th, after such a long time away from the hobby, so I'm taking all of my ideas with a heft pinch of salt

, but I like the look of this army, and think it might be decent.
Please give me all of your comments and criticism.
Cheers
