My guess would be a lot of people of Dakka are super sensitive to modeling for advantage. Personally, I don't care as most of the time models with low profiles also lose as many targets so it is half-a-dozen of one, six of the other. Especially in Kill Team which has so many balance issues that wouldn't even be in the top 20 of things to worry about.

I think the black parts worked out great in the figure on the left. Same for the boots on the on the front right. I can't quite say for the one in back since I can't get a good view, but they look just as good.

Contrast paints aren't for me (I barely like the loss of control with a wash), but I do think they can create nice effects. Doubly so with the effort others say they put in to get the effect they do.

The Black is ok, but the gray of the trousers isn't. The photograph is flattering in this regard. This doesn't mean that you can't get better results with practice and probably some medium.

I only play with painted miniatures, because if they deign to fight for me, the least that I can do is paint them
While I can understand the terror of "loss of control with wash" intellectually, my heart can not really feel it The threat of a bad dice roll on the other hand ...

Yeah, I only play with painted miniatures too. About half of my enjoyment of miniatures war gaming comes from two painted forces and a decently decorated table/board. I spent all week painting up the Primaris from First Strike because I think I want to play them in Kill Team this weekend. I just finished them today.

I was only mentioning the wash thing relation to how contrast paints work. It took me a lot long a log time to get comfortable with using the black magic of washes because once I put the wash on I never quite knew where it would pool. I have gotten better with experience and now treat the wash phase as a subtractive process. I see contrast paints as having the same requiring a bit of experience to know where the colors are going to be. When it comes to my painting, I try to leave as little to the unknown as possible. Oddly enough, on the table I have little issue leaving everything to chance.
