Definitely not my finest paint work, and the model itself was in pretty not great condition when I got it... but I finally finished my Blood Ravens Chaplain Dread!

The halo is a little different than the one it came with. I was pretty unhappy with the condition of the one it shipped with, so I redid it in Rhino and 3D printed it. It's very similar, but I didn't like the round spikes, so I did angled ones. It's the little things.

Spoiler:

I'm not sure what his weapon options are since I don't play anymore, but I also built the siege dreadnought options I had bought at the same time, the heavy flamer and siege drill:

Spoiler:

You vs the guy she tells you not to worry about:

Spoiler:

The weapon options I did for him (in a scheme that makes the range weapons swappable with my other BR dreads):

Spoiler:

He's noticeably smaller than the current gen plastic dreads:

Spoiler:

Instead of painting the lenses like I normally would, I tried using those eldar gemstone paints. That worked OK but not great; I don't think I would try that technique again.

Nice work, cool miniature. I think the halo could use a bit more wash/definition, but otherwise it's really slick. I love the idea of the chaplain dread also.

Great work! I'd second Elbows's comment on the halo and gold, unless of course the camera washed out so of the work you've already done.

With gold I typically use either just Agrax Earthshade, or a Sepaphim Sepia wash, with a recess shade of Agrax Earthshade. Then highlight up to silver on the extreme edges.

So was there one careless owner before the Blood Ravens came into possession of the Dreadnought?

Nice. The gemstone paints work better if you shade the metallic first as if you were doing a normal lense paint job. Use your darkest silver at the top and your brightest at the bottom

I think you're right, I might give it a touchup.

I think i am going to try exactly that, but Army Painter soft tone or brown, it has a nice... orangey-ness to it.

While Brother-Dreadnought Invictus insists that he was once a Black Templar off on crusade, being interned into a Dreadnought Sarcophagus is often confusing to the Marine contained within. Sleep, brother! We will rouse you again when it is time for war.

Thank you for the advice. This is my first attempt at doing them so I have a lot to learn. I had just done a single layer of Mithril Silver which sort of worked but of course didn't have much contrast, as you see.
