Hey all, My local GW is doing a 1000pt league at the end of June and I've registered for it so I'm looking for some advice to build a good list (as in I want to win). Rules are single detachment, rulebook missions only, no soup and only one list for the entire league. I've been tinkering this evening and trying to decide what would be a decent take all comers Craftworlds list but I'm requiring some input. At this points level, Alaitoc is obviously good but Biel-Tan seems to be a good Craftworld to take stock cheap bodies with shuriken weaponry and abuse the rerolls that the host trait gives. Here is the first list I've come up with: Biel-Tan Swordwind Battalion HQ Farseer (powers TBC) Spiritseer (warlord, spirit stone of anath'lan, Biel-Tan natural leader, protect/jinx) Troops 2x 5 Dire Avengers (Exarchs are stock) 10 Guardians w/ scatter laser platform Dedicated Transport 3x Wave Serpents w/ underslung cannons Heavy Support 3x War Walkers The list is pretty all rounder but will suffer against a tank company for instance as I have no weapons above Str6. I can dish out some mortal wounds at least. The Guardians can do a webway bomb and the War Walkers can deepstrike. Let me know what you think of this one. The second list uses Alaitoc as the army trait but could use Biel-Tan: Alaitoc Battalion HQ Farseer (warlord, faolchu's wing, singing spear, powers TBC) Spiritseer (protect/jinx) Troops 2x 5 Dire Avengers (Exarchs are stock) 20 Guardians 5 Rangers Heavy Support 2x Fire Prisms Flyer Crimson Hunter Exarch w/ 2 BL This list has more anti-tank and the prisms can be good anti-horde/MEQ, the guardians can webway bomb, the remaining forces can benefit from the -1 to hit and overall get some good target saturation with 2 prisms threatening linked fire and a flyer helping to screen in some situations. I do have more units available to me so if anyone has any suggestions I can likely swap things out for better options. Cheers!

Bumping to see if I can get a little bit of feedback at least. I don't have more than one squad of rangers and I have at least one squad of each aspect along with a few more tanks. I have some jetbikes too if they could be used.
Also feel free to suggest totally different lists! Get some brewing going!

Well, since you will play a league, it depends on your local meta.
If you face armored units/tanks, the Alaitoc will be better.
Otherwise, I'd go with Biel-Tan which is my favorite.

Well this is thing, I've not played there in years as I was at uni but I'm in the area again so I've no clue what I'm facing! I'm trying to find a balanced approach to the league as I don't expect a lot of armour but in the event there is I'd like to be able to deal with it.

If so, then take the first list.
It guarantees a lot of dice and Biel-Tan grants re-rolls of 1's to hit.
The more dice the better.

It's often better to put Natural Leader on your Farseer. Idk why but people are usually more intent on killing the Jinx machine than Doom/Guide and with Runes of Fate having majority 24" range instead of 18" like Runes of Battle, it's easier to keep the Farseer in range of everything they want to cast on.
Also, assuming you take Guide, you can have 2 things that do not get rerolls from Shuriken to up your anti-armor. I would suggest starcannons on the War walkers if you can squeeze the points out of somewhere (such as exchanging the bright lances for starcannons on your Crimson Hunter - idk how your Bright Lances treat you, but I've found mine to be whiff machines).

Second list looks like it has significantly more teeth on it. The first list looks like it'd be really hard pressed if faced with IK, or anything with significant armor. I'd swap out the BLs on the CHE for starcannons as suggested. Not sure how many points you'd have left after. Get the DA exarchs a second catapult each and maybe add spirit stones or a targeting matrix to a prism - the one you expose.

Hey all,
Many thanks for your input and I'm taking your opinions on board! The first list is pretty tight and in order to give the walkers starcannons I end up 4pts over if I drop the scatter laser platform or if I drop two underslung cannons from the wave serpents I get to keep a cannon for the guardians and be 1pt under. Dropping the final cannon in exchange for a singing spear on the Farseer and dual catapults on the exarchs may also be an option. As such, the list would look like this:
Biel-Tan Swordwind Battalion
HQ
Farseer (powers TBC)
Spiritseer (warlord, spirit stone of anath'lan, Biel-Tan natural leader, protect/jinx)
Troops
2x 5 Dire Avengers (Exarchs are stock)
10 Guardians w/ shuriken cannon platform
Dedicated Transport
3x Wave Serpents, 1 w/ underslung cannon
Heavy Support
3x War Walkers, all with starcannons
Total = 999pts
Then in regards to the second list with some input from the tactics thread I've modded the list a bit to save points and add to the existing units:
Alaitoc Battalion
HQ
Farseer (warlord, faolchu's wing, powers TBC)
Warlock (protect/jinx)
Troops
2x 5 Dire Avengers (Exarchs have 2 catapults)
20 Guardians w/ shuriken cannon platform
5 Rangers
Heavy Support
2x Fire Prisms, 1 w/ crystal targeting matrix
Flyer
Crimson Hunter Exarch w/ 2 starcannons
Total = 996pts
The second list I'm coming around to more as it does have a good amount of firepower to it and dropping the spiritseer for a warlock means I get access to the seer council stratagem.
I could use some help with deciding on powers and warlord traits as I don't know what would be best and these lists are untested.
Keen to see what you all think, cheers!

It makes sense. Jinx debuffs the opponent's dice directly which has a more immediate psychological affect than buffing our dice.
But I also agree that Natural Leader fits better on the Farseer due to the range of the powers. And really, a Spiritseer shoudln't be "higher ranked" than a Farseer

I get that, but I usually take guide on the farseer so natural leader is a bid redundant on it. Not that the trait is super useful anyway because the majority of stuff is hitting on threes and rerolling ones. The only valid guide target would be starcannon walkers.

Wait. So if the trait is "redundant" and not "super useful", why the heck do you use it? Surely "Seer of the shifting Vector" would be a better trait for either Seer. Is it just because it's the Biel-tan WL trait? -

It's not super useful in this list, I usually have other things which benefit from the re rolls like Fire Dragons. But on a Farseer it is redundant because Guide does the same thing but you have to take a psychic test.
