Long time lurker here. I read this book the other week and I had a good time. It's pretty decent fodder for post apocalyptic gaming. Like in the header, it's about a wacky millionaire turned survivalist that likes to love the high life despite thermonuclear extinction events... Here's the synopsis.

'Alice Greenly returns home from her first year of college to discover Edward, a wealthy survivalist, has purchased a home on the outskirts of her small town. At first she believes him to be an eccentric – but as atomic war breaks out, it falls to Edward to help Alice and her family to flee the irradiated wasteland that her home state has become. In their escape, they are forced to contend with the privations of post-apocalyptic life and do battle with looters, highwaymen, and gangs until they arrive and settle at the town of Holmes, whose inhabitants managed to survive the apocalypse, and even establish a measure of civilized living, with the help of an organized group of survivors known only as the Outriders. But though the Outriders appear to be benevolent protectors, not all is as it seems.'

Anyway, figured I'd share it.

You mention John Galt--does this book have an Objectivist bent or is it a parody?

It doesn't take itself too seriously. The characters are fun without being an in your face parody. I wouldn't call it political satire or philosophical at all... What you get in the story is just some legitimately competent people trying to survive the nuclear end times and some hijinks. It's a decent read with some good combat scenarios.

Still confused as this description still doesn't really explain the inclusion of an Objectivist icon.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

It's just my take on the character bro. Meant it to be funny.

Funny how? I mean, Poe's Law is a thing nowadays, so we can't tell why you think it's funny. Not trying to get this thread shut down, so I'll just say that your reference makes me wary.

Not friends with the author, no... Just found it randomly and figured I'd give it a shot. I like to pick up books like these from time to time because sometimes you find something worth reading in a sea of trash. The both of you guys need to lighten up a bit here, this is a hobbyists board.

Let me put it this way, then: if it's a parody of survivalist, objectivist literature, I'd be interested. If it reads like a post-apocalyptic Atlas Shrugged, I would not be interested. Your reference does not tell me which of these two polar opposite descriptions better fits the book.
