Hey mates. As it stands I planned to get at least one Imperial Knight to use as an ally for both my Armageddon Steel Legion, Sisters of Battle, and my White Scars and while I have a FW Knight Castigator inbound, I still want to utilize a regular GW Knight on games without FW units. With that being said, which Knight Variant have you found successful that goes well with Mechanized Infantry lists in Chimeras

Knight Crusader, House Krast. Take it with a Battle cannon and Ironstorm Missile Pod, and give it the Warlord Trait First Knight and the relic Headsman's Mark.

House krast freeblade knight gallant. Give it the armor of the sainted ion for a 2+ sv. WLT is first knight (re-roll hit rolls of 1), or landstrider( +2 to charge and advance), or ion bulwark (no need to rotate ion shields). Choose the quality mysterious guardian (6" heroic intervention), and choose any two burdens which are melee related, because thats what you want to do anyway with the knight, or roll for one.

A Knight either belongs to a House or is a Freeblade, it can't be both.

Definately a gallant or crusader. Castellan is a huge risk at 700+ points and 4++ max now. And you either want to force assault (gallant) or stay in the backline shooting all game (crusader).

Arnt 2 lrbt just more efficient than 1 crusader?

Since IG already has good range shooting why not protect your shooters with the smaller war glaives? They are like sentinels that can fight in close combat.

The Crusader is approximately worth 2 tank commanders for shooting, but costs as much as 3. This changes if you give it the Headsmans Mark relic, it gives a 50% damage boost vs vehicles and a 100% damage boost vs titans, making it very efficient. It effectively has 12 battlecannon shots in close combat as well, and can fall back and shoot. A Crusader is way better than warglaives.

There are pros and cons to utilizing either the Crusader or the LRBT's. However I have heard that the Armiger Warglaives are a great Ally Option for an IG Army due to them filling a CC Need and adding some much needed Anti-Tank options.

I'm not saying the warglaives are a bad choice, just that the Crusader is better in close combat than the warglaives against elite infantry, a bit worse against heavy targets, and a bit worse against light infantry. It's also MUCH better ranged anti-tank than the warglaives, and significantly more durable (rotate ion shields + T8). It's more expensive, but anything warglaives can do, the Crusader can do as well or better.

I ran a Knight at BAO, and while strong, I found him to be a liability at times. Fact is, in every close game, he's an automatic 4 points for your opponent, as everyone is ready to kill a Knight.
