I got questions. I'm not worried about making a competitive anything, but my nephew really likes the ogres (ogors, gutbusters, etc/whatevs) that I have and I have been thinking about throwing togethether a fun little campaign game for the next time he visits, something light and loose with the rules. And also a bit silly.

So basically what I'm looking for/wondering about is where the various rules for ogre style things might be found. I have the path to glory book, and there are the warscrolls of course. Is there anything else i should look for?

Also, background lore stuff. There's the snippets in the BRB, is there much else beyond that? i am really just looking for anything to give me a rough guideline to play around with.

And lastly... who might make a good and thematic enemy for a band of ogors?

For what you are thinking, the free rules and free warscrolls are more than enough. The only rules stuff you might want to use are the grand alliance destruction rules from the main rulebook.

For a jumping off point for fiction, I'd suggest the wikis. I'm fairly certain there's a reasonable one if you search for sigmar wiki.

For an enemy, what about someone the ogors want to eat but who are sick of being eaten? Humans, elves, dwarves? A mixture? Grand Alliance Destruction (Ogors) vs Grand Alliance Order (stop eating us)?

Reaper Miniatures makes a huge variety of fantasy characters that are pretty much in scale with age of sigmar stuff if you're looking for one offs and heroes and suck to stand in for various warscrolls.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Battletome: Beastclaw Raiders will be something to pick up.

Thanks! I've actually got one reaper ogre, i plan to use him as the tyrant.

I had forgotten about the beastclaw raider somehow, it's on my list

One thing i've been trying to figure out: do ogres still work as mercenaries, or has that been mostly dropped.

It's mentioned here and here in the background fiction, but isn't really supported by the rules except in that there's no real restrictions on stuff if you're doing open play or an open play hybrid. So go ahead and chuck whatever you want on the table for a game with your nephew. People with "ideas" about how the game "should" be played aren't usually receptive to open play approaches to the game, but they don't really matter as you're not really talking about making an army for tournaments or whatever.

There will be ogor mercs in the new GHB when it hits.
