I bought a DV helbrute and it was painted, terribly, and glued together. I stripped the pain with alcohol but can't really change it without tearing it to pieces. So i'm stuck with a muktimelta and a helbrute fist. Nit even a combi bolter...

I run chaos stew with IW and NL, maybe with a little AL in big fights. I generally avoid cult units preferring CU.

Now that the situation is laid out, for a helbrute with MM and HF what legion is the best? IW, NL or AL?

Most people will probably say Alpha Legion for the -1 to be hit but that will only work with this loadout first turn.

The ignoring cover from Iron Warriors could be helpful all game on a dense board, but won't matter if the dreadnought is shot off first turn.

Night Lords is best at a kind of Leadership Bomb thing that is hard to really get work out of and easy for enemies to shut down. I'd make Night Lords my third choice personally.

Finally think about your buffing characters and what Legions they will be. An Alpha Legion Chaos Lord can't give his reroll aura to Night Lords troops etc. It may be worth matching your Helbrute (who will be moving forward to get in range) with your more aggressive detachments.

The best use for the DV Helbrute is clipping off the Multimelta barrels and gluing on Lascannon barrels where they used to be. ;P

I could see some usage from Red Corsairs and their charge after Advancing.

Thanks for that and I can kinda agree, but all I have are twin autocannons, or a plasma cannon as I have a HB with twin lascannon....

Or could I do something about that? Hmm, time to put on a deepsea suit and dive into my bits box.

Or find round plastic rods, cut the ends to the "lascannon angle" and drill them out? Think, crypty, think!

Plastic rods with the gargoyle heads from the chaos vehicle upgrade sprue as the 'lascannon weapon heads'.

Or heavy bolters for anti-infantry weaponry. That's what I might do for my DV Helbrute instead of the lascannons.
