Subject: Fun event ideas to get unusual models/gear into a game

So, I play at a GW and I was musing to myself about offering up additional mini-game types. I wanted to opt for a "dual of fates" kind of thing, where each player brings one character, any point limit with minor restrictions: no special characters (Skarbrand, Archaon, Alarielle, etc), no summoning (of any kind, it's a flat out no), no endless spells and game is played on a single Realm of Battle tile; opposing models must start in opposite corners like in a boxing match. Each player is welcome to their codex's rules (command trait, command ability, weapons, spells, magic items, etc). The reason I was thinking about this is because there is plenty of stuff in each battle-tome that's come out that is "oh, that's cool, I would totally use this in...not a 2000k pt game". I realize this'll likely lead to big stompy monsters for the most part; Greater Daemons, Spirits of Durthu, Magmadroths, Maw-Crushas, Lord Celestant on Star Drake....GOOD! I don't see any of those (except one Magmadroth and my GDs at my local area). Hell, could even add in the new Forbidden Power artifacts and each victory (provided you picked something where you can meet the conditions) improves the weapon.
What fun events do you guys try to run that are not excessively time consuming? Not thinking long campaigns, but something to break up the norm of regular battles. Plus, getting new people into it with something else might help generate sales at stores for big beasties for armies people might not own already; ie, I play Chaos, but have really been eyeing that Magmadroth model...

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Due to work, I can usually only ship any sales or trades out on Saturday morning. Please trade/purchase with this in mind. |

A game I played a few weeks ago was me and my opponents randoming traits and artifacts and spells for our armies. That was pretty fun and stopped some optimal uses.

Nearly 3k+ points of Slaanesh (AoS)
2500 points of Ironjawz
Too many points of Space Marines. |

In ages past whenever we wanted to "encourage" different stuff to be used we just made a list from each faction.
Bring XXXpts on {date/time}, your army MUST include at least 1 choice from the following list.
Skaven: x, y, z
Orcs/goblins: x, y, z
Vampires: x, y, z
Bretonian: x, y, z
Etc....
We'd run it the last weekend of the month, each month was different from the previous, & we'd post about 3 months at a time. The xyz options included less-to-almost-never seen things in a range of price$. And the local shop would give a discount on the kits listed.
This allowed people time to plan ahead, borrow/buy/build/paint as necessary. And the shop got some benefit in many cases.

Path to glory with full on random forces. Automatically Appended Next Post: The new open war force generators at a small level would also be cool.

In our PtG leagues we roll for command traits, artifacts, and spells (pick a relevant chart, roll with one reroll).

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page
I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.
I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games. |
