My 40k playing experience has been limited for the past few years. I haven't played much in the way of vanilla marines, and played no one that has. Honor Guard seem interesting, but a bit on the expensive side for what they bring to the table. Anyone have any experience with them?

Only seen and interacted with the Victrix variety which have been pretty popular lately.

My son is fond of them. But we play casual, and he’s still new to the game, so take that with a grain of salt.

I think they are a bit overpriced for what you get. Only 2 W/A means you are paying a bit for gear/abilities that you are not getting a lot of milage out of. You can use them to soak wounds for your other characters, but at 13+ points per wound, how worthwhile is that? They are extra power weapon swings, but why not bring another HQ who brings an aura along with the chop?

The Victrix get double the wounds and attacks, and a 3++ for 7/ppm more (assuming PS HG). One of them is basically doing the job of two normal HQ, for a small bump in points.

It’s good to be an Ultramarine!

Not that there is any reason other chapters shouldn’t be fielding primaris HG.

Not unreasonable next to other bodyguards, unless you compare them to tau drones. Celestians for instance are 11pts and protect much lesser characters, tyrant guard are around 12pts a wound. Death shroud are quite a bit more per wound (though you also get quite a bit more of a unit for your points).

Comes down to how much you need to keep your character alive, but a drawback of bodyguards at the moment is that without protection from target selection they often don't provide all that much more than a non-bodyguard unit standing in front of the character would have - if the character is tough the bodyguard just gets targetted first.

I use them with Pedro Kantor. They soak up wounds and keep him and my Captain alive. They get three attacks each and tear things apart with him. Company Veterans would likely be a better choice due to being able to take Storm Shields and more than just two dudes, but I prefer my Honour Guard due to the extra wound. They are there to keep Pedro alive while still hitting hard.

I plan on using my new Victrix honour guard with 5 Reivers a Chaplain and melee based Lieutenant in a Repulsor or flame storm aggressors instead of the Reivers as a melee focused unit in my Primaris only Ultramarine army. 8x extra power sword attacks from 2 guys is pretty good.

Here I am hoping for an expansion of the data sheet so they could be used by armies that aren't Smurfs lol

I could see the Victrix Guard being frustrating in 2500+ point games. Take multiple units of them, surround Guiliman. Start spreading wounds amongst the units.

I plug them in when I have a 50 point hole in my list.
